What to say about the Stanley but WOW!! What a beautiful hotel in a wonderful place!! Or stay was quite and relaxing! We stayed in room #401 a haunted room!! (So they say....) We didn't have real paranormal experience but had a blast trying!! Even better was the fact that our room was an attraction so we freaked other guests out just by opening our door!! Our room was simple but nice. It was not a cheap stay by any means! But when you consider that you are staying at one of the most famous Hotels on the planet it really is affordable. The history and heritage are unbelievable! The ghost hype just makes it that much better!! Redrum

We stayed with a group at this hotel and were very impressed. The restaurant was very good. All service personal were great. If we needed anything it was supplied very quickly. The rooms were clean and updated. No A/C so midday was a little warm but nighttime was comfortable. Easy walk to downtown (10 min).

Room Tip: Ask for a luxury king. They are corner rooms and larger than the standard room.

We were an elderly couple celebrating anniversary, traveled all day to get there, had never been to CO, and Stanley Hotel was our dream Destination. We were put on list to be called when room became available, no call received. Checked in about 4. Rm was small and stifling on 3rd floor. We asked politely twice to switch out room. Tall man said none available so we left hotel after eating 15 dollar steak sandwich at Cascades Restaurant; not seasoned, dry, not toasted, really poor, and served fries from the bottom of the French fry pan. We were hungry so we ate it. Young bald server was fantastic though. Went to town to see sights. 3 hrs later we returned and asked to switch out room again being we had literally touched nothing in our first room; didn't even want to go back there. Daniel gave us a wonderful room on 1st floor. So happy! It was breezy, bright, more updated, and roomier. We had considered abandoning 1st room, lose the 300.00 paid and staying elsewhere in town but thank goodness Daniel came thru! Also, as I was standing in line several times I could hear Mr. No Rooms Available tell other guests about all amenities but to me he said no, no,no, and said nothing about amenities. When checking in, check in with the friendliest guy, not the tall, well dressed stuffy one with a fake smile. Young people I know want to stay there now for Honeymoon.
Am not sure what to tell them, Stay in 108, room is great.

Room Tip: If you like sound of waterfalls and ground level, ask for room 108.

Every few years my friend and I leave our husbands behind and take a "girls' vacation" together. We always book one special night toward the end of the vacation in a really nice or historic hotel or B & B, and bask in the feeling of total self-indulgence that such places always provide. On this vacation to Colorado, that "special night" was going to be the Stanley Hotel. Neither of us had any interest in the paranormal, but we were looking forward to seeing this historic hotel and total relaxation. We arrived on a very rainy afternoon, and found a busy lobby with people milling around, sitting in the chairs/sofas around the fireplaces, and lounging on the wide front porch. On the landing of the stairs was a group of people seated on a bench (?) listening raptly to a guide who was telling them about the hotel on a $17.00 tour. When we got into our room, we were surprised to find only one king-sized bed, as originally I booked a room that was supposed to have a king bed and another bed for my sister, who was going to join us there. We just counted it a lucky coincidence that she couldn't come at the last minute, and although I wondered how much more I had paid for that room with two beds, I decided not to pursue it. The room itself had a luxurious-looking bed, but the room had an overall "tired" look. I hopped into the shower to freshen up, but could not get anything above lukewarm water -- frustrating! The old floors are "soft" and creaky, which is to be expected in an old place, but it made the hallways noisy, and the foot traffic overhead was also very noisy. We were on the 2nd floor, so there was a LOT of foot traffic, shouts and sudden shrieks as curiosity-seekers wandered the hallway seeking out "THE" room. That night, the family above our room began a noisy romp at about 9:30 pm that involved kids screaming and shouting, and EXTREMELY loud sudden thumps that sounded like a bowling ball dropping. We honestly thought someone was going to come through the ceiling. Finally, at about 11:30 pm we called the front desk to complain and were told that security would be sent up to check it out. A half hour later, the noise continued and we called again and were told that they had "just this minute" sent security up. Although the noise diminished somewhat, the "BOOM!" noises continued until almost 1:00 am. Up at 5:30 the next morning to get an early start to Rocky Mt. National Park, we were exhausted and disgusted that what should have been a really special stay had been completely ruined by this rude family, and that the problem was not effectively addressed. We spoke to the front desk clerk, who "tsked" and then told us that they had received 3 complaints about that family, but then said, "That's nothing! We had a homeless guy sleeping on the floor in the corridor on the 4th floor, and I had to get the police to remove him screaming and swearing. Then I had to call the paramedics for a guy who was short of breath and having chest pains." The young man was very nice and personable, but didn't seem to understand that none of those things concern us. We were expressing our dissatisfaction about paying a ridiculous amount of money to stay in a hotel in which we got NO SLEEP! He offered us a cappuccino from the breakfast bar as compensation, which we declined. Neither of us will ever stay here again, and both of us will be writing our first letter of complaint to a hotel in over 40 years of travel.

Room Tip: If you just have to go, make sure that you get a room on the top floor!

The staff made us feel like celebrities even though we are just a couple from Wyoming. The service was excellent, the rooms were spotless and we even had a couple of paranormal experiences. I highly recommend this hotel for its quality.

Came here with two other friends to hopefully bask in the haunted vibe of the hotel. I'm assuming anyone who comes here are hoping for a supernatural experience. We didn't encounter any hauntings or eerie feelings; although we scared the wits out of two teenage girls by standing quietly atop the stairs. Thought they would fall down the stairs. It was funny.

Take the tour. Scary Mary was delightfully hilarious and a wonderful guide through and through. Get her if you can! Really enjoyed all the stories steeped in history. Otherwise a rather quiet night. They have The Shining looped on one of their channels in the rooms. We just HAD to partake in this cheeseball activity at the hotel. It was a comfortably cool night so I fell fast asleep and only caught the last 30 minutes or so.

Also, don't think the real "haunted" rooms are open to the general public.. so that is a bummer.

It was very clean and well kept, I'm glad we stayed. Do know it's pricey and does not have air conditioned rooms, it was 85 in our room, so a very hot nights sleep in July. There are tours, which fill up quickly and are also pricey but we didn't have any literature in our room stating what they were
