“Haunted adventure”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2011 via mobile

A splurge stay, top of the line hotel. Fancy and great food at Cascades restaurant. We went on the last ghost tour of the day..trying to have fun with the kids. They loved the ghost stories. It is a ride up the mountain, but frequent pull offs allow you to go at your own speed. Would stay again.

This was a highly enjoyable tour mostly by the enthusiasn of our guide, Wayne, who brought all the stories to life - literally in some cases by using members of the audience to enact scenes. It was very well done and most enjoyable. Dinner afterwards in the restaurant was excellent too.

We had a great time staying in this historic hotel. Loved the haunted history, the views, sitting on the veranda with a cool drink and people watching. Several weddings were on the property while we were there, perfect setting for that! Estes Park, Co. is a great little touristy town. Fun shops, restaurants and galleries to enjoy.
One of the managers there was very informative and we spoke with him several times while we were there, mostly just friendly conversation...he was a nice presence in the hotel.
We will definitely go back. We will request one of their larger rooms next time, although we loved ours it was a little smaller than what we like. And there is no air conditioning in the rooms this usually does not matter as it stays pretty cool in Estes Park. It was unseasonably warm the days we were there so it got fairly warm in our room during the day and not quite as cool as we like it at night. They do offer fans and we had ours in our window the whole time, as did many guests, and that really helped pull in the mountain air!
All in all we loved our stay and loved Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park, Co.!

We enjoyed our room, tours, dinner and breakfast at The Stanley. I highly recommend a stay here if you are vacationing near Denver. We had a great room, and even though we hoped to be visited by ghosts, our stay was memorable.

We stayed here with our 2 teenagers, so had to get 2 rooms, but were glad we did. We were in the annex building, which is a replica of the main hotel and quite charming. One room was a queen, not large but nice. They upgraded us to one suite which was great-we used it as our living room where we watched The Shining on continuous loop. The bathroom was also large. Both rooms were very quiet, but they do host weddings on the weekend so you might check if noise is an issue to you. We ate in the dining room which was fun but not a good value. Pool is clean and pleasant. They said the hoitel was full but there never seemed to be a crowd. Warning: no air conditioning. It got warm on the top floor in the afternoon. Other times were fine.

Room Tip: Ask for an upgrade to a suite.

Enjoyed our two-day stay in this historic hotel perched on a hill with a great view of the Rockies. The early twentieth-century building is really quite impressive on its extensive well-kept grounds. The hotel was well-maintained and our room and remodeled bathroom were surprisingly spacious. The hotel is somewhat noisy with a constant succession of tour groups and the presence of many children. There is an emphasis on the association of this building with the book and movie, "The Shining" with the hotel sponsoring "ghost tours" and maintaining a television station dedicated the constant replaying of the Jack Nicholson movie. This is rather fanciful, but creates crowded public areas. Also since there is no air conditioning, windows had to be open and one heard people outside, so things settled down only late in the evening. The young staff was solicitous, but at times inept. Overall it is a beautiful facility and worth a stay. I was pleasantly surprised that there was no extra charge for parking.

One expects the time will roll to 1800's again when you walk the halls of this place. 7500 feet above the sea level, mountain views and fresh air guaranteed. We saw a wedding taking place while we were there and were blown away. Nice rooms, little pricey but worth it. Excellent staff, great in house restaurant. Did not try the room service.
Happy traveling.
