“You gotta try this place just once!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 1, 2012

This was our second stay, we thought it couldn't get any better, and we were wrong. The owner is on site with his family, and that is how we are treated. The river is 25 feet from your deck! Clean, new, and they ( the help) stay away and give you peace, Unless you need their help. This place is the standard, that the rest our measured by! Thank you Fred, and Trevor, we like all the "returnees" we met, will be back again, you have the bests of both worlds, people and location !

Room Tip: Try the cabins, the extra money is worth it !

This was our second visit to Riverview Pines. First trip we stayed in the cabins in 2010 and this trip we stayed in the units along the river on the ground floor. Perfect location near Estes and Rock Mountain National park. This is a family friendly and pet friendly location which was perfect for our family trip hiking with our dog. The sound of the running water and the beautiful view along the river is so relaxing. We have seen the elk come down to the river on both of the trips. The owner's and staff were very friendly and helpful. Those hiking with their dogs we recommend the Indian Peaks Wilderness Area.

Riverview Pines has a great location with which to explore Rocky Mountain National Park while being near to the parks's entrance. It is situated along the river and the grounds are pretty and serene.

But, we were quite surprised with the dowdy and outdated accommodations provided in the rooms at the hotel section of the Inn. Maybe the cabins have been updated but the room we stayed in looks like it hasn't been touched in 30 years. Old wall paneling, carpet, bedding, drapes and furniture. Cracks in the bathroom sink and bathtub. Even though the heat was unbearable (not their fault), we had to turn off the ceiling fan as it was clicking loudly all night long.

The staff was not all that helpful in recommending local restaurants or the best hikes. It seemed as if we were the first to ask such questions.

Get the specifics on the room you are booking so you know what to expect when you arrive.

This is our second time visiting Riverview Pines and here it goes:
Pro's: Beautiful river and grassy area. Nice playground, great fire pit for the smores that they prepare, close to downtown estes, nice decks, grills, and other amenities like horseshoes, and benches. The staff is great, very friendly and laid back. The exterior to the cabins are nice and the scenary is amazing.
Con's" The inside of the cabins smell weird, not so fresh. The furniture is decent, but I couldn't tell where the smell was coming from, the dated carpet or dated bedding. The kitchenette is nice to have with full size fridge, stove, sink, etc fully equipt with kitchen utensils. But again, I questioned the cleanliness of the place and was too creeped out to use their utensils and even the towels. I'm thinking that they allow dogs in their cabins which contributes to the weird smell and just the feeling of the place not being clean enough. I did not walk around barefoot as my kid did with socks and they got pretty dirty. If you aren't too picky about cleanliness, you'll love it. This place has so much potential, and couldn't help thinking how I would "make it over" being such a prestine exterior. They do not have daily maid service, just dump you're trash, that's it. I expected more especially for the rate I paid.

Room Tip: If you have a family, get the two bedroom. When we rented the one bedroom we thought the pull out c...

If you are looking for cozy, family type atmosphere this is the place for you. The grounds are beautiful, the river is wonderful and the people are great. Very family friendly and lots of soft green grass for the children to play on. The rooms are clean. The bathroom area could use some updating. The outdoors calls you to sit by the river or the fire. Safety was not a concern for us either time we visited. We slept with our patio door open and things in an open truck bed! When was the last time you were able to do that? We love the place and intend to go again and again. When in Estes Park this is where we will stay.

We stopped there for just one night so we didn't have a chance to experience all that they have to offer, but given a choice we will probably stay there again.

First the problems:
The biggest problem that we had with them was lack of A/C which while normally is not a problem in Estes Park was something we were missing this time. Granted, we were there during the heat wave that Colorado never experienced before, but Estes Park does warm up during the day. Additionally, I had to unplug the in-room refrigerator at night as it was quite noisy. Also, it appears that the water in that area is very hard and doesn't wash up soap very well. As the result, the bottom of the bath tub was very slippery - just something to keep an eye on. The room itself looked very well maintained and clean. The bathroom looked like it came from 50s and in desperate need of updating. Everything worked and it was clean but very old. The lodge also didn't provide any shampoos or any other toiletries. We didn't ask for it in advance nor we really needed any, but something to be aware of. While the room was very clean, I did find a used coffee pod in the coffee maker which makes me think that housekeeping is not quite what it should be.

I'd recommend trying to get there when there is still a light out. Turning into their property when going from Boulder at night is virtually impossible - they have the sign but the turn is not lit up. Also, it took us some time to find the building we were on as the territory is not very well mapped or lit so if you don't know where you're going it may take some time finding your way around.

On the plus side, their property is beautiful: well groomed and bordering the creek. If you happen to be in a room with the balcony overlooking the creek I'd suggest you take advantage of it - makes a nice place to relax. I noticed a nice kids playground so the property is kid friendly. We saw a dog in one of the rooms so I assume it's dog friendly too. The lodge is priced reasonably and location is good as well - 5 min to RMNP and couple of min to all the local attractions, restaurants and city center.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the creek for views but keep in mind that it maybe noisy at night with the win...

We stayed in a ground floor room in the Rooms on the River. The room was only about 50 feet from the bank of a beautiful stream. The grounds were superb with chairs and benches on the bank of the stream. They provide a bonfire at night complete with marshmallows for toasting. The rooms are older but clean and comfortable, and the beds were comfortable. The entrance to the Rocky Mountain Park is right down the road, and the hotel is close to several restaurants.
