“Unique, Special and Accommodating”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 11, 2013

Every room has it's own decorating theme. Helpful staff and right on time (mostly) with the morning coffee at 7. The spacious grounds (4 acres) are frequently populated with elk. The bathroom entrance was awkward, but the room was spotless, had a refrigerator and a balcony with a view across the valley and golf course. We have already made reservations for next year!

Room Tip: Ask for a balcony room or one of the cabin rooms.

Green Features: I did notice that the coffee cups, lids and heat shields were all made from some percentage of post-consumer recyclables and were all compostable.

Great stay and location for the price, everything we needed for a quick night stay while visiting Rocky Mountain National Park. I would have given it 5 stars but the window would not open. After asking she said there was not much she could do, so we had to air out the room for the door a bit. Not bad though, got plenty cool at night. But otherwise worth the money!

Thank you for your kind review on your stay at Discovery Lodge. The nice thing about being in the mountains is that it is typically 10 degrees cooler than the front range in summer. We’ve had out maintenance people look at all of our windows to ensure they operate as designed. We appreciate your business and hope you will stay with us again soon. Thank you, and have a great day!

I have stayed here several times and just really like the place. It is a little rustic, but this is Colorado. Large, clean room, very nice staff. Elk wander by often, on the golf course. I have never had a bad stay here.

Green Features: They allow pets for a small fee ($10.00 per night), but they provide pick-up glove/bag and require that clean up after your pet.

The location is what makes this hotel so wonderful. It's right next to the visitor center on the outskirts of downtown Estes Park. You can hop on the trail and walk from the hotel to anywhere in the downtown area. The lack of air conditioning was not a problem when we stayed there.

Thank you for your kind review on your stay at Discovery Lodge. Our location is one of the wonderful things we can offer visitors to Estes Park with convenient access to the lake path, downtown Estes and the Visitor Center where you can take shuttles all around the valley and into the national park in the summer. We appreciate your business and look forward to seeing you again soon. Thank you, and have a great day!

We only stayed one night, but thoroughly enjoyed it. We loved sitting on the balcony and looking at the awesome mountain views. Room 311 is one of the rooms on the upper level of the parking lot - I would highly recommend any of them. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Grounds were nice with a small catch and release fish pond. The mini-fridge in the room was a nice bonus. Rooms and baths have been recently renovated. Beds were really comfortable and rooms were clean.

Room Tip: Although the upper rooms are closer to the road, the views from the balconies are totally worth it!

Thank you for your wonderful review on your stay at Discovery Lodge. The balcony rooms in the 300 building offer some of the best views in the lodge and all the rooms in that building have been recently renovated. One of the fun things about our property is our private catch and release pond which is available to all of our guests. We appreciate your business and hope you will consider staying with us again soon. Thank you, and have a great day!

I picked this spot as it didn't look so commercial. My daughter reserved a king room balcony. When we got there We were told that they were remodeling so my room was un available. I received a balcony room with two beds. I really liked how rustic it was and the cozy comforter. The view is nice. The next day after booking the king room that I didn't receive I had to move downstairs. I sat by my window watching customers that were staying in my reserved room walk back and forth. The downstairs though nice doesn't compare with the balcony rooms. I had to stay another night downstairs. I don't think I would have booked this hotel if I would have known this would happen. The saving grace is that the air is lovely and the hot tub is hot even when there is a blizzard . I felt safe and the Elk like to wander by the hot tub area . Would I stay again? I just might but I wont drive 2 hrs not to have my reservation. That was guaranteed.

Room Tip: Pick a balcony room or a cabin.

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay at Discovery Lodge. It is unfortunate that you weren’t able to receive the room you had reserved as we do want to uphold our promises. Since we have such a unique collection of rooms, when something happens to force us into performing maintenance on a room, we don’t always have an identical room available to move reservations into. We do offer some form of compensation if we end up having to change rooms as we do guarantee our reservations. We appreciate your business and hope you will consider staying with us again soon. Thank you, and have a great day!

We have stayed here every October for the past several years. We rate Discovery five stars because it is very well located, clean, comfortable, affordable, extremely helpful and friendly staff, can hear the elk bugling & observe them walking around the property and on the adjacent golf course and have seen deer watering at the trout pond. It is conveniently located next to the Visitor Center, a Safeway grocery, restaurants, and a short walk downtown via the River Walk. A great value and the Lord willing we plan to be back.

Thank you for your wonderful review on your stay at Discovery Lodge. October is a beautiful time of year to visit Estes Park. With the aspen turning gold and the elk in rut, there is plenty to see and do as the town becomes more relaxed as we head out of our main tourist season. We are glad you have chosen to make Discovery Lodge part of your annual fall adventures, and we look forward to seeing you again in years to come. Thank you, and have a great day!
