My family of five stayed here at The Solitude Cabins. What a wonderful spot. Every detail is taken care of so you can relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. Our unit had two king beds and a sleeper sofa which enable everyone to get a good night's sleep. The units are large...1200 square feet! I believe a professional decorator outfitted this unit! It is beautiful! We were only able to stay on night but would like to return here. This unit is brand new complete with a washer and dryer...the owners even provided the detergent! Maureen in the office is knowledgeable of the area and very helpful. There is a hot tub on site that my family enjoyed. You will be very happy you have chosen The Solitude Cabins in Estes Park!

We were also in unit 1890-7. The house was very nice. They are all stand alone two story units with full kitchen, living room (cable TV/DVD/fireplace), bedroom/full bath on the first floor, and another bedroom/full bath on the second floor. The bedrooms were large, especially the upstairs one. In our unit both bedrooms had king-sized beds, although with matresses harder than I would prefer. There was also a Murphy bed hidden behind attractive wood paneling along one wall in the living room (which I think looked like a queen-size, although we didn't use it). (Sounds like some houses have sofabeds and others have Murphy beds.) The houses were built within the last couple of years, are nicely furnished and decorated, and still look just about brand new. The washer/dryer (detergent was provided) was very handy. The kitchen was well-equipped and included an icemaker in the freezer, a dishwasher -- and a few days supply of ground coffee in the refrigerator. There's no AC, but the "cooling system" circulating air from the (locked) basement worked well in the late afternoon when we returned, and the temperature drops in the evening anyway. (We don't like to be hot, and on one of the warmer weeks of the year, we were just fine.) The resort is just to the east of town on the other side of Lake Estes, and a little out of the way, but not at all inconveniently so. The high school is essentially across the road, which might be an issue for some units along the road, but this isn't an issue in the summer. The units are bunched together in groups, and at least some of them seem awkwardly close to each other -- our upstairs bedroom windows opened onto the neighbors deck not more than 25 feet away. Privacy could be a challenge, but this seems to vary from unit to unit. We had good communication with the management by e-mail after booking on-line. The place was very nice, we enjoyed our stay, and we'd certainly stay here again.

  • This TripAdvisor Member:
    • Liked — Excellent room: new, nice, clean and spacious.
    • Disliked — Units a little too close together with awkward juxtapositions compromising privacy.

This was the first time we'd stayed at Estes Park and we found Solitude to be a nice place. I'm not sure exactly when they were built, but they seemed near-new. Our cabin had a very homey feel and had all the amenities we could want.

The property is right off US 36, making it easy to hop on the road back towards Boulder, or go the other direction into Estes. One thing I particularly liked was the walking/bike path that's accessible just across the street.

All in all, a very nice place to relax in Estes.

We've just returned today from 4 nights at our Solitude cabin and loved it so much that we felt compelled to write a trip advisor review for the first time. I totally agree with the other two reviewers that these are just perfect cabins. We nearly always consult trip advisor for recommendations but never have we agreed so whole-heartedly with the reviews for a place.

The location was ideal for us since we didn't want to be in town itself--it's a short drive or medium walk into town. Each of the cabins is individually owned so I can't speak for the rest of them, but ours (1890-7, the Van Tassell's) was amazing. I believe they all have the same layout so it would just be the interior decor and actual location that would vary.

I couldn't fault the location of ours. The wall of windows off the kitchen and living room looked out over a wooded hill, so Solitude certainly seemed like an appropriate name. The interior was in such great condition that I wouldn't have been surprised if they had told us we were the first guests to use it, though from the guest book it is a few years old.

We were four adults and one infant and never felt like we were on top of each other. The bedrooms are large. Both are ensuite and each with its own television and DVD player. The upstairs bedroom upstairs is slightly larger with a chair and ottoman for relaxing and the downstairs bedroom has an extra bath area with vanity sink. The kitchen was well stocked, the linens were nice and the little touches like the DVD library were thoughtful. I honestly cannot think of a single complaint. We all agreed it was an incredible value for $140 a night. I would not hesitate to book with Solitude again and would recommend it highly to anyone.

Solitude Cabins

We spent a week at solitude cabins while we were looking for a summer home in Estes Park. We liked the solitude cabins so much we thought about buying one. Our cabin, and the others we saw, are attractively decorated and comfortable. The management and staff of the project are very nice and they keep the cabins immaculate. The kitchen was well equipped and I think every cabin has a washer and dryer. Although the cabins are somewhat small, the vaulted ceiling and ample windows give them a feeling of spaciousness.

Each cabin has a very nice deck with a picnic table and a propane grill. The cabins are relatively close to each other but are situated in a manner so that you don't feel that your neighbors are very close to you.

Some cabins have internet access and some don't. If this is important to you, you should ask about this while you are booking.

There is a walking trail across the street from the Solitude property which leads to a very nice walk around Lake Estes or into town along the river. In the summer it's hard to find a parking space downtown and the walk to and from town is nice.

I do have a couple of caveats. Although these cabins sleep six with two on the sofa bed, I think four guests is most that can be comfortably accomodated over a week's stay. The living room/dining room is not very big and folding out the sofa bed would take up most of the free space. The people on sofa bed are also going to have to be the last ones to bed and the first ones up since everything moves through that common area. The dining room tables have seating for six but have to be moved into the middle of the kitchen if you want to put two people on the side nearest the window.

These cabins are individually owned. The management of the property attempts to allocate the rental income as evenly as possible. However, some cabins are in better locations that others. In some cases, it's merely a choice of trading more solitude for an additional 40 yard walk to your cabin. However, some of these cabins are near a relatively busy road and there is a high school across the street (and the stream and walking path). As a matter of personal preference, I would prefer to stay in a cabin further back into the project and away from the road and the high school.
