We stayed in cabin 8 at Pine Haven Cottages July 7-9, 2005. The cabins have a variety of layouts. Cabin 8 has a kitchen/living/dining room and an upper area with a bedroom and bath. The bathroom includes a modern shower stall, but not a tub. The bedroom contains a queen bed and a metal woodburning fireplace. The room is separated from the living area by a blanket that can be drawn for privacy. The living area includes a twin size daybed, with a twin trundle bed available. The cabin interior is knotty pine, with carpeted floors. It was a little dark, but had a charming, old-fashioned atmosphere. Other sizes of cabins were also available. (The floor plans differ from cabin to cabin. We saw only "our" cabin.) Many of the cabins had exterior accents. Ours had a whimsical statue of a black bear standing with a fishing pole and a catch of trout. Others had planters of flowers or small pines.
The grounds were a major attraction of the property. There are three picnic areas, walking access to both sides of the Fall River (there's a footbridge as well as a vehicle bridge) and a mountainside with pines, rocky overlooks, and a trail that leads about two miles to Rocky Mountain National Park. The river frontage is wide enough that the adjoining properties aren't readily visible, and the cabins are set back far enough to minimize the noise from traffic on Fall River Road--but the sound of the rushing river forms a pleasant background.
This is an older property, but well-kept. The rates are comparatively modest. All in all an excellent value for those wanting to be reasonably close to downtown Estes Park, yet have easy access to nature.
