“Beautiful and easy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2013

I am an Estes Park local and this is a regular hang-out. There is no park entrance fee. The trail is paved and gravel. (There are some repairs in progress after the flood.) It is accessible via wheelchair and walker, with benches to sit and contemplate the water and mountains. Walk along the north trail for a little elevation; along the west spur for a view of the Continental Divide. The south side of the lake is the location of filming for one episode of the Centennial mini-series. The Baldpate Inn is across the street with unique lodging and a decent, inexpensive meal.

“Peaceful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 23, 2013

Very clean and well maintained trail around the lake. Only bad thing I can say is very limited parking on lakeside area...there is more parking across the road.

“Perfect short hike”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 10, 2013

Lily Lake is situated just 5 minutes south of Estes Park, on HW 7.

The charm of this lake is in its simplicity and grand vistas. The small lake allows catch & release fishing. Parts of the lake have reeds, others small lily-pads, while the majority of this high altitude clear lake provides an excellent reflection of the surrounding mountains.

You can elect to walk 2 paths: The main path around the lake is very easy - wide, covered with a crushed rock and usable by strollers and wheelchairs. It offers many stone benches and picture resting spots.

If this is not quite enough, or you want a more interesting hike, then veer off on marked upper trail to North of lake. This will allow your children and teens to use-up some of their energy, while offering you an elevated and breathtaking panorama of the lake flanked by mountains and rolling forests! There are a few stone staircases that will make you breath, but overall this is not much more difficult than an easy walk. This path though, is not made for strollers or the very elderly. You will find many places to frame stunning pictures, and many other places to sit and take in the scenery. This upper path is also mostly among the trees, offering needed shade in the hot summer.

Both paths are just over 1 mile in length, allowing you to walk 3 miles at nearly 9000' of elevation! Note this may not be quite as enjoyable with large crowds or very hot days...

You may see ducks, fish, deer, elk, beavers, water rats, butterflies, chipmunks, and a variety of birds including hummingbirds. In the right time of year you may even taste some wild black-berries along the trails. The wildflowers are also worth taking the time to capture in your camera.

“Small but beautiful”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2013

We made a short stop on our way back to Denver. Just wanted to check it since it came up as one of the attraction. Its a small lake but its beautiful. Worth a 30 minute stop on a road trip.

“Lilly Lake was hit pretty hard by the floods”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2013

The roads around the Lilly Lake area are in pretty poor shape. Exercise caution when visiting this area, especially if you pull off the highway to take pictures....you might find yourself in a ditch! It was very clear from when I visited (Oct 2013) that they are actively repairing the surrounding roadways and this will be back to it's wonderful condition soon.
