“New Management not a Plus”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2013

I had high hopes for the Appenzell Inn and now have mixed thoughts about it. When we arrived, hungry and tired, all we wanted to do was check in, take our bags to our room, then go to the restaurant on site to have dinner. Oops - no more restaurant until new management opens a new one. Connect to another room? Oops - the system doesn't work but the new management will fix it sometime in the future. Irritations like that abounded. Our room was adequate but very dark, even in the sunshine-filled days. Lighting in the bathroom was dim also. On the plus side, our bed was very comfortable topped with a fluffy white comforter. Back to problems: no place to put a suitcase if you wanted to use it frequently, let alone space for two suitcases, very small "cozy" room, small closet for hanging up clothing. I won't go on but I would say that it is a good place to stay if you don't have a lot of baggage and if you want to stay in an average hotel. By the way, the staff is very nice and friendly.

Room Tip: For a quieter room, ask for #46. It is one the end of one of the buildings and has a small patio wi...

Thank you for your review. We appreciate all guest input! The old owners had the restaurant for the past 5 years, but only had it open for 6-8 months out of this time. It is taking us a few weeks to find a good chef and supplier for the restaurant. However, when we do get it open in the next few days, it will be open year round. The room that you chose is one of our smallest rooms. We have a variety of rooms to meet our guest's needs. The one you choose is best suited for a couple, looking for a small, economical room for a getaway. Most of our rooms are significantly larger. We even have 2 bedroom suites which contain a kitchen and living room. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed the new comforters! The first thing that we did with the ownership change was get new towels, sheets and comforters! Thank you for your input and we will take your suggestions into consideration!

My husband and I stayed at the Appenzell Inn for 3 nights for a weekend getaway. We had a great experience. Before arriving, I let the staff know that we would be arriving very late after they were closed for the evening. They made sure to leave me keys to the room where I would find them. The staff was very nice and made sure that we were happy with everything. I really liked the property, as it was cozy and had a lot of character. The rooms were very clean and the bed was comfortable. We had a room with a fireplace and a Jacuzzi, which I really enjoyed. Overall, I had a great experience at the Appenzell Inn and would stay there again the next time I visit Estes Park.

We have stayed here twice. Once 8 years ago and once last weekend. Both times we loved the views, the pretty gardens, and the suite type rooms. This time we used the indoor pool and the kids loved it. Though there has been some updating (tile), I felt like the linens, carpet, and upholstered furniture were in bad need of replacement. However, I understand (from the front desk staff) that it has just changed owners, so keep an eye out for more recent reviews to see what changes occur.

It is an unusual property with a quirky vibe that we enjoyed.

Room Tip: Get a top floor room for the best views.

We stayed in the Grindel Suite. Check in was a breeze with friendly staff. The location is great because the rooms face the mountains and it is a little off the main strip so it's nice and quiet. The room was well appointed with in-room jacuzzi, mini kitchen, and the room had a large shared deck with seating and grills for outdoor meals if you wish. Bed was comfortable and clean. We were very pleased!

Stayed here for memorial day weekend. First time staying here and really enjoyed the stay. We stayed in a room that had bedroom, living/dining space & jacuzzi tub. Would recommend anyone stay here. Close to downtown and easy access to everything in the area.
