Just spent a week in one of their cabins. Great location one minute from the Fall River entrance to RMNP and four minutes to Estes Park. Clean roomy cabin and friendly helpful staff. Would definitely stay there again.

My wife and I have been in Estes before and upon planning for our latest trip came to TripAdvisor for advice. The reviews of McGregor were outstanding, so we picked it as our destination when staying in Estes this last time around.
After our week long visit we are wondering if we stayed in the right place, because our experience was nothing like what others have said (save a couple of reviews).
We are not high falutin' folks, we don't expect much. However, we have traveled extensively, for business and pleasure and have come to expect some things for $150 night. One such expectation is to have your sheets changed and the room at least vacuumed each day. Neither of those things happened on our stay. In fact, we had to CHANGE THE SHEETS OURSELVES!!! During the middle of our stay, noticing they hadn't been changed, we literally went to the office, procured sheets, then changed them. Later we found out if you want "housekeeping", that is an extra 15% charge - and changing the sheets is part of "housekeeping". They did change the garbage every day and bring new towels, so all was not lost.
Sleep could have been better, what with a female fox and her cubs living underneath our cabin (#12). We love the outdoors and revel in her beauty, but a young family of rambunctious nocturnal animals is not conducive to a good night of slumber before hitting the trails at RMNP for a week of hiking.
Word of caution...if you are a hiker, and an early morning one at that, don't expect to get a cup of coffee or have a question answered before you depart for the day. The office opens at 8am, not good if you want to get an early start. Most places we have stayed open at least at 6am, some earlier. When they are open, they sometimes have cookies out, but don't fall for the "fresh baked goodness" others have proclaimed - they are straight out of the box!
On the positive side, Chris and the whole staff were very friendly. The views were very good. It is easy to get to and the traffic does not bother. It is close to RMNP and a pretty drive along Fall River to downtown Estes.
Overall, we are hopeful that for this price we will discover an alternative to McGregor...if not...we will stay here again - and bring our own sheets!!!

Had a wonderful stay at McGregor's. We stayed in one of their Columbine Cottages and it met all expectations. Awesome views of the mountains right from your front window. Bird feeders were busy our entire stay and we saw many birds we would never see back on the East Coast. The cabin was private, clean and well stocked. The bed was very comfortable and we really enjoyed the whirlpool bathtub after a day of hiking. The hosts were most helpful and gracious. Everything about our stay could not have been better. Only 1/2 mile from the Rocky Mountain National Park, convenient to town, abundant wildlife, rustic yet with all the modern conveniences. Just a perfect place. Would love to come again. I don't think Estes Park has a nicer place to stay than here.

Perfect! I scouted several resorts, lodges, and cabins in the Estes Park area and we chose McGregor Mountain Lodge because it was located ½ mile from the entrance to the RMNP and for the outstanding view from the room. This location is NOT hidden away in the valley along Hwy 36.
When we checked in we were greeted first by their two dogs Daisy and Trevor. The fireplace was blazing and the smell of fresh baked Chocolate chip cookies was in the air.
After a speedy check-in we were off to our room. We stayed in the lower Chalet Suite #15. The room was dated but very well kept and very clean. Our kitchen was fully stocked with a microwave, stove, and large refrigerator. They also provided brand name coffee and filters. The water even tasted good right out of the tap. The bed was comfortable and the heater kept us cozy at night and easy to control. Furniture was even nice to sit in for a little TV in the afternoon.
We hiked the first day behind the lodge just to give the legs a wake up call. Great hike I must admit.
There were plenty of things to see and places to roam. Views of the mountains are awesome and the wildlife is everywhere.
We will definitely be back as we have already booked our next stay for 2007.

This lodge is beautiful. The owners are friendly and helpful. The views are gorgeous and we'd definitely return. A superb base for exploring the National park. We self catered and, though our cabin was small, it was very well equipped. Compact and bijou - please note that we opted for the smallest! If you like the idea of eating breakfast on a verandah with hummingbirds above your head and chipmunk at your feet, then this is the place for you.
