Wonderful place... Peaceful, quiet, so inviting. River at your doorstep, what more could you ask for. Donna and Lloyd, the owner made it complete. They were friendly and full of knowledge of the area. A definite repeater.

Stayed at Idlewilde by the River in Estes Park in June 2013. I have not been so relaxed in a long time. The cabin was very clean and had everything we needed inside and out. The owners are very helpful, warm and friendly people. It sits on the banks of the Big Thompson river and the grounds have been left in the natural state - beautiful. With the hot tub, fire pit and play ground, both charcoal and gas grills, this place has something for everyone.

The sound of the rushing river can't be beat. The screened in porches are wonderful. We spent our time at the cabin watching the hummingbirds (feeders at each cabin), sitting by the river, enjoying the hot tub, grilling dinner and making s'mores each night at the fire pit. The location is great, the access to both Rocky Mountain Nation Park and Estes Park are within a couple of miles. They also have games and movies available at the office.

My husband and I enjoyed our stay and didn't want to leave. We are currently planning our next trip to Idlewilde next summer, this time with the grandchildren.

If you are looking for a getaway in the mountains by yourself, with someone special or with the family, I highly recommend Idlewilde by the River you will not be disappointed!

Room Tip: Some of the cabins are right on the river, so if you have small children I would choose a cabin that...

"We had a wonderful time at Idlewilde! The Dun-Workin cabin was so cute and relaxing as well. We took advantage of the stocked kitchen and fridge to buy and cook our own food, saving on expensive dining. They have gas and charcoal grills available on site. This also allowed us to enjoy dinner together next to the relaxing sounds of the river. The owners were great as well, very helpful and friendly. The screened in porch with the swing was a perfect way to spend an evening as the hummingbirds visited the feeder right next to us! Bring a good book to read in the deck chair by the river as well! I highly recommend Idlewilde if you plan on staying in the Estes Park area."

This was our first time visiting Estes Park so we had to trust the online reviews to pick a place to stay. All the rave reviews of Idlewilde did not disappoint. We spent an idyllic five days in the Holiday cabin, enjoying the sound of the river rushing nearby and the hummingbirds outside our window. The cabin itself was spotlessly clean and stocked with helpful basics like salt, pepper, coffee filters, etc. Donna and Lloyd, the owners were so friendly and helpful. The other guests respectful of the quiet and natural beauty of the spot. We enjoyed grilling outside and just sitting by the river and the national park could not be closer. We recommend Idlewilde whole-heartedly!

If you are wanting to have a quite, very clean, rustic getaway....this is the place. The cabins range from 1 to 3 bedrooms. Our cabin (Riverside) is a one bedroom with two queen beds. We were about 15 feet from the Big Thompson River. The cabin is all notty pine, the screened in front porch overlooking the river is so perfect for the evening or early morning. They have hummingbird feeders at each cabin they keep full so you have beautiful birds visiting you all the time. The cabin was VERY clean, the size is small and comes with the basics you need for a vacation if you want to make your meals in the cabin. Each cabin (they are close together but it wasnt a problem for us) has a grill, picnic table and chairs to use. There is a common ground for campfires, a hot tub for guests, a small playground and the office has many movies, games or books to use while you are staying. Donna was as pleasant as can be, she even gave us a pass to Rocky Mountain National Park because another guest turned it in to her becasue there were days left on it.
This resort is only about 1.1 miles from the entrance to the park and about 1.5 miles from Estes. With the river on the property you never hear any traffic.

They have a 70% return rate each year and now I will be another happy guest that will definately be returning.

Room Tip: If you have small children, the riverside cabins would be risky. There was a family of three small c...

The first time we stayed there was 8 years ago in the Aloha, and Lloyd said “try the fishing. Within 15 min’s I knew this was the place. Ever since then, Donna would greet us with a hug when we arrive and give us so much information about what’s going on in town. The cabins are always clean and appliances are kept up to date. The sound of the river and the Hummingbirds feeding in the evening is the perfect way to call it a day. And if you really want a finale to the night, climb into the warm Jacuzzis for total relaxation. The location is far enough from down town for privacy, but close enough that you have a good place to go for breakfast and great restaurant for BBQ. I would recommend Idlewilde by the River to anyone .

Room Tip: Two or more bedrooms are the way to go. Makes you feel at home. No need to buy a lot in the kitchen...

My husband and I stayed in Cannonball Memorial Day weekend 2013. We greatly enjoyed our stay. The location is amazing. The river is just feet away from the cabin and with the windows open you can hear the current rushing. You can also hear the hum of hummingbirds. It is such a delight to see and hear these beautiful little birds. From you screened in porch, with a wonderful swing, you can sit out and smell the fresh pines and clean air. The inside of the cabin is very cozy. We loved the wood on the walls is was very rustic. We didn't get to have a bonfire but we wished we could have. Lloyd and Donna were wonderful. Staying at Idlewild is like staying with someone you have known for years. They treat everyone like family. We were celebrating our anniversary and Donna got us dinner reservations at the Twin Owls Steakhouse. We would also highly recommend this restaurant as well. We enjoyed every minute of our stay and I was very sad to leave. My husband and I plan to make this an annual trip. Thanks Lloyd and Donna for a wonderful stay and we can't wait till next time.

Room Tip: Definitely book early for a river front cabin!
