“What a wonderful place for a getaway!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2012

The Sonnenhof B&B was a perfect weekend getaway. Hilde and Rudy are so pleasant and they make you feel right at home as soon as you step foot into their home. We stayed in the Golden Aspen Suite and loved it! Breakfast was delicious and they even accommodated a gluten food allergy. The location was perfect - it was just outside of the town of Estes so you can get everywhere easily but still felt that you were secluded as well. We will be back!!!!

Room Tip: All of the rooms are great!!! Can't go wrong with any of them.

Hilde and Rudy were very welcoming and friendly hosts, and not only connected with us but helped the rest of us who were staying there to connect as well. The suites are large, attractive, clean, and well-accesorized (and well stocked). It's also a very nice spot. The prices are quite reasonable for a bed and breakfast, and the stay was well worth it. Count on us being back.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Alpine Flower room. It's downstairs, but faces the lake instead of the woods. N...

I agree with everything everyone else said and then some. You start out with a warm welcome and by the time you leave you feel like family. The place is spotless, the owners are so very friendly, the setting looks like something out of a fairy tale. The wordworking that Rudy has made is perfection. The breakfasts were wonderful and plentiful. The owners are always there at breakfast to join into the conversation. There is so much to say about this place. We were in The Romantic Rose the balcony that overlooks St. Mary's Lake is a plus. It is so quiet even with the windows open. The b&b is set up so you don't know anyone else is there until breakfast. If you want to get up for sunrise this room gives you a beautiful view over the mountains. RMNP is just out the back way and you don't have to go through town to get there. Thank you Rudy and Hilde we had a wonderful stay.

This is an exceptional B&B owned by an exceptional couple. From the very moment you ring the front door bell you feel a warmth and hospitality not found anywhere else. It is perfection in every way. Our breakfast conversation was easy and enjoyable. I was sorry to leave what seemed like my family. Thank you Rudy and Hilde for a memorable vacation in Colorado.

Room Tip: Alpine suite on ground floor with own front entrance, patio and parking

Extraordinary B&B with spacious and well decorated rooms, spotlessly clean, with owners that go out of their way to ensure an enjoyable and memorable visit. The property is secluded with plantings, tables and relaxation areas.

Room Tip: The Rose Suite faces East. PS It does not have a pool or fitness center.

Everything about Sonnenhof was wonderful! The owners Hilde and Rudy have done everything to perfection, from the yummy breakfast, to the coziness of the house and rooms and jaw dropping gardens! We have stayed at many B & B's and this is by far the best!!!
We can't wait to return!!

There truly are not enough words to describe the beauty of Sonnenhof B&B. We have stayed in B&B's for 20 years throughout the country and loved many. But, I can honestly say Sonnenhof is at the top of our list. From the moment you pull up the driveway and see the gorgeous mountain setting and Rudy's amazing woodwork, you know you are in for something special. We arrived to find an envelope with a note and keys to enter our suite. Rudy and Hilde had to leave for a bit and did not want to miss us. It was so cute to see taped notes pointing the way to our Romantic Rose Suite. When we entered, we were absolutely taken aback by everything. Our room and view were unbelievable. Rudy makes so much of the furniture and every detail is perfect. Our room was huge and had a stunning view of Mary's Lake and surrounding mountains. While we were unloading our car, we were treated to an afternoon thundershower complete with a double rainbow. The terraced garden in the back is a feast for the eyes and soul. There are handmade birdhouses everywhere along with a gorgeous gazebo, soothing stream and multitudes of flowers. In the morning, sweet music plays and brings you into the log room for an amazing breakfast. Hilde plans and prepares unbelievable breakfasts and each couple is brought their own servings, which are huge! The location of the B&B is perfect to town and RMNP. It is just minutes away from both and we were able to spend an entire glorious day in the park. Our last morning we had an unbelievable surprise by the visit of dozens of elk right in the front yard!! We took tons of pictures and couldn't believe they were so close. Sadly, our stay was not long enough but we will absolutely return. I have already checked on some upcoming possible dates. In closing, the crown jewel of Sonnenhof is Rudy and Hilde. They are such warm and gentle people and we were so blessed to have the chance to be with them in their amazing home.

Room Tip: We loved our Romantic Rose Suite. It is huge and so is the bathroom. I think the other rooms are l...
