I have never stayed at the Inn (I live in the area) so this review is only for the restaurant.

The Baldpate Inn is charming, the people are friendly, and the food is excellent. True, they only serve soup and salad for lunch and dinner but with fresh muffins and breads it is plenty of food. I would rather eat my soup and salad while watching the hummingbirds (and the occasional chipmunk who sneaks in) that be in a noisy restaurant in Estes Park.
I love sitting on the porch swing drinking my coffee and taking in the view.

“Rude, Dirty and Disapppointing”

The Baldpate Inn

Nov 4, 2004
11/12 found this review helpful

We stayed in one of the cabins which was very quaint but the floor was not clean at all. The bedding was nice but the couch and chair did not have a spring left in them. It was difficult to sit and the floor was filthy. The owner of the Inn is anything but friendly. She'd walk past us and not even say "good morning". SHe only entertained conversation when specifically addressed and "cornered". She seemed stressed and "over her head" trying to run the Inn. We could of handled the "dirty" floor and the exceptionally "rude" owner if they didn't offer our kids a children's meal consisting of peanut butter and jelly with cut-up apple for $9.00 and added $2.00 more for the glass of milk that went with it. I didn't think of asking how much a peanut butter and jelly sandwhich would be... but to find out it cost $22.00 for 2 peanut butter and jelly sandwhiches was too obnoxious for me to hold back. I even addressed the server and owner about the cost and was told that the cost was due to the "labor" involved. WOW...There's a new career for someone!!!!! I would never stay here again and wouldn't recommend it to anyone. By the way, the ONLY Soup and Salad food service is not clearly indicated anywhere.....Many people had a shocked look on their face when they were only informed after they made reservations to eat there. It certainly isn't anything special!!! By the way, it's the same cost as the peanut butter and jelly sandwhich with milk!

Management Response

Disappointing as it is to receive this kind of review, it did cause us to relook at our children’s menu & pricing and make changes. In the dining room of The Baldpate Inn we do seek to offer more than just great homemade food; our goal is to provide a distinctive dining experience within our National Register listed property to each of our guests, no matter their age.

With my own children and grandchildren, I have always believed in the benefit of an occasional dining experience that includes a tablecloth and “real” napkins, not just a butcher papered table with playground & a toy in the food bag. So while I do not promote our dining room as targeted specifically for children, we do especially strive to be kid friendly. We appreciate input and continue to make the effort to respond to each of our guest concerns.

Again with our accommodations, we strive to be the best within our historical and mountainous setting. The sofa and chair in this B&B cabin are heritage pieces and not the overstuffed style so prevalent today that are available in some of our other guest accommodations. For many years we have attempted to be proactive in anticipating our guests special needs, be it offering to-go breakfasts or updating to provide free wireless internet.

Evidently I owe a personal apology for my lack of compassion in dealing with this complaint at the time. It is never my intention to be rude, “stressed” or too busy when speaking with my guests. We look forward to the opportunity to add these guests to our over 30,000 delighted visitors each year.

“Inn Revisited”

The Baldpate Inn

We had eaten the salad and soup buffet several years ago at Baldpate and remembered the homemade soups and breads, charming mountain setting, and hummingbirds at the feeders outside the the huge dining room windows overlooking the mountains. So when it came time to find lodging with more scenery than on our past hiking trips, we picked Baldpate. The Baldpate Inn is a rustic bed and breakfast nestled in an idyllic mountain setting. The staff anticipates your every need. Guests feel pampered as they dine on delicious fresh homemade muffins and cinnamon rolls or when they are served complimentary beverages on the huge porch. We were treated to fresh raspberries as part of our complimentary breakfast each morning. We were very full as we set off on our hikes at nearby Rocky Mountain National Park. We stayed in the Valley View cabin. It was clean and comfortable with a working fireplace. We would return for another visit.

“Baldpate Inn - Terrific!”

The Baldpate Inn

Feb 12, 2004

We had the pleasure of staying at the Baldpate Inn in July 2003. We couldn't have chosen a better place. We liked it because it was outside the hustle and bustle of Estes Park. The Inn is very rustic, but that adds to the charm. We are avid hikers and Baldpate was a perfect fit.
It was wonderful after a day of hiking to sit on the porch and relax on the swing or rocking chairs. The evenings were filled with most guest gathering in the main room curled up on the couches talking about their day, reading and relaxing in front of the fire. The complimentary breakfast was terrific every time. Evening snacks and drinks were a wonderful touch. You can reserve rooms with or without a private bath.
We had a private bath. All rooms are equipped with bathrobes which was an unexpected perk. A nice touch for those that don't have a private bath. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend Baldpate Inn or stay here again.

“Rustic Bed & Breakfast”

The Baldpate Inn

Jul 24, 2003

This historic bed and breakfast is located at about 9,000 feet nestled in the Rocky Mountain National Park area. It is very rustic which is part of the charm. The staff of about 20 college students are hired yearly from around the United States. The food is all cooked on site from fresh ingredients. Breakfast consists of a freshly made quiche, fresh fruit, fruit juice & coffee and a homemade cinnamon roll. The quiche and fresh fruit vary from day to day. I especially loved the 'Swiss Quiche". Only lodging guests enjoy this great breakfast, but the lunch and dinner salad bar are open to everyone. Guests also enjoy complimentary home made snacks in the evening. Well worth the drive from anywhere.
