“Okay stay.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2013 via mobile

Our stay at the Oceanfront Lodge was okay. The room was nice; everything was clean, etc. The balcony view was amazing. The Pacific was literally at our window. The balcony itself was creaky & rickety, so my husband refused to stand on it long. The hotel was pretty quiet, which was good. The bed was soft, and the shower was clean. Breakfasts were typical free continental style and also par for the course. We did find outside doors propped open or unlocked multiple times. With the access key readers, which worked, I wasn't sure why the building was left unsecured, especially with the high number of wandering/hiker/homeless people walking around town. The free wifi did not work, and there was never any ice in the machines. My husband had to go buy it for our hiking trips, which was a bit ridiculous. Functioning ice machines and wifi are expectations these days. There was a lot of construction going on, which never bothered us. I think once renovations are done, it'll be nice. Maybe they just have too much going on with renovations, causing the quality of normal ameninities to suffer. They should add screen doors to the balconies in the renovations. Sleeping with the sound of the ocean would have been nice, but leaving the door open let bugs in, so we couldn't do that at night. Overall, again, it was just okay. It could be so much better w/ the location and Hampton bones of the building. The staff also seemed very uninterested in us. Except for the construction man, I never saw an adult working anywhere; they all looked like they were in their teens or early 20s. They didn't really greet us ever, unless we directly addressed them, or know anything helpful about the area. For what we paid, I'd try other places before returning.

We Cancelled OUR Room due to illness and our card was still charged. To top it off we were told 180/nt and they charged us 257.00. We were givin a refund and the owner's wife charged our card again because she wanted to see a doctor's note that we were sick, can you say hippa...The receptionist gave me the owner's phone number, I called. He told me when you book a plane ticket you do not get a refund if you are sick and hung up on me. You can not base a refund off of an airplane ticket. My bank had to file a fraudulent claim on this business. The owners are foriegners and do not understand the US laws of running a business. Do not stay here or or give them your credit card info!!!

Our family enjoyed the view and the sounds of the waves crashing in. The hotel was redoing their lobby and it's going to be great. However, when I got back home, there was a $15.99 charge for a movie on my credit card that we did not order/watch. The movie was started around midnight and I assured the lady we never order movies from a hotel (seriously - $15.99) and that our family had all lights out before it was even dark outside. We are use to Central Time so midnight in Pacific Time is 2 a.m. our time. After trying to be polite and letting her know there was no way we would of watched the movie, I was told, per the owner, the computer showed differently and they would not credit the charge. Poor customer service and no desire to go back.

Room Tip: If you stay here, take the time to checkout with the front desk in the morning so you are not surpri...

As a former local involved in planning a class reunion, we negotiated a rate of $99/nt for a standard room and had a block held for classmates coming in from out of town. We posted it on our website with a very nice description, including photos. It was a nice presentation and essentially free advertising. A month and a half later, we received a call telling us that the owner changed his mind and raised the rate to $169/nt/. You don't make a deal then change it.

Although over the years I have stayed here numerous time, I will never give this guy another penny! Furthermore, some of the other hotels in town are better.

Room Tip: Stay closer to the harbor where there is more action and things to do.

My sister is getting married up in the area and we booked a block of rooms at the Ocean Front lodge for out of town guest. We got a call that the owner has decided to raise rates and not honor our initial reservation price. We were given the option of paying the higher new rate (that was about $60 more per night) or cancelling the reservation. Without hesitation I cancelled the block of rooms on hold. If a hotel owner/operator won't honor rates for reservations who knows what other shady practices are going on. Luckily another hotel (Ocean View Inn & Suites) happily accepted our block of rooms fro the wedding and even offered us a special group rate.

The view is really magnificent. Definitely go for a room with balcony. Room was good and spacious. Can’t complain on anything connected to that. 2 catches though: 1) it's quite far from any restaurant for a walk, so be prepared to drive to get your food 2) when we were there the main hall and restaurant/breakfast are were under re/construction - not a big deal, if you manage your expectations and the view is exactly what matters.

Had an amazing room that was perfectly located right on the ocean. Room service did an excellent job.. just had a little trouble working out staying another night. Although everything got resolved efficiently, I would definitely recommend this hotel!
