“Excellent value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2012

This is not a luxury resort by any means, but if you're looking for luxury, Crescent City is not the place for you. The hotel is clean, the rooms are spacious, and the owner is a gem with all sorts of advice about places to eat, etc. We found sand dollars galore at the south end of Crescent Beach and more sea stars than we could photograph (plus seals and sea lions) on Point St. George (go past the airport and keep going to the end of the road (Pebble Beach Dr.). Be sure to go at low tide.). I highly recommend Curly Redwood Lodge for a comfortable, basic hotel that doesn't try to be more than it is.

Smells. Stark room. Thin walls. Bed and linens from ??? Not sure where these good ratings are coming from. I don't mind an older motel but wow, this is the bare essentials. Rooms were hard to come by on this night so we decided to give this one a try because of the trip advisor ratings. A rare time when trip advisor let me down.

I booked this motel for a large group of female motorcyclists and we were thrilled to arrive and find spacious CLEAN rooms, free wifi and food across the street! The rooms had nice beds and linens, good towels and all things necessary for a nice shower. We had stayed the previous night in a place that had none of the above, so it was wonderful being here.

The office was helpful in providing local info, as in restaurants and places for coffee. They had wonderful coffee provided in the office that was ready early in the morning for those desiring an early start. They even had really cool mid-century modern designed napkins and matchbooks. The rooms had some wonderful vintage furniture as well!

I'd go back and stay here in a heartbeat. It was an absolutely wonderful value!

Room Tip: If you need wifi, ask which rooms have better connections!

Rooms are spacious and clean. not much of a view but a great value for the price. The story is also quite cool- that the same tree was used in all the rooms, when building the inn. Dont know if its true, but its cute non the less.

It's said that the motel was built from a single redwood tree. That alone made me want to stay there. I was surprised at the spacious room. This motel was built in the early 50s. I'm a big fan of vintage motels, and if you are, you'll love this place. The room was very clean and basic with no refrigerator, microwave, nor coffee. There was very weak coffee available in the lobby in the morning.
The desk clerk was rather sassy, but she kind of went with the place.
Each unit has it's own parking space at its door which I found convenient. I wish other motels did this.

Room Tip: Think twice before eating at the restaurant across the street.

We stayed here one night on our way down the California coast. The rooms were big and clean. I loved the flowers outside and the big grassy expanse where the kids stretched their legs. I'm crazy about vintage stuff and this motel is no exception. Loved it and the free wifi.

We really enjoyed our stay in Cresent City. The Curly Redwood is right out of another time but well worth the $. We used it as home base while we took in the sights - be sure to hike in the redwoods and walk along the beach. Good fish and chips across the hwy. The lodge is old but nicely kept. The curly redwood grain is featured throughout the building. We were lucky enough to have about 20 vintage cars in the parking lot one day and night, as their was a big car show in town. The '55 Chevy parked in its stall can easily take you back. Friendly staff, unique and cosy accomodations, coffee in the morning, close to the beach. Ask for one of the ground level rooms. A terrific little lodge for about $70 a night. I would happily return.

Room Tip: Ask for a ground floor room. Chat up the owners. They are friendly and good people.
