The nasty weather last week in Atlanta and the southeast US caused us to be rescheduled for our flight, but as luck would have it Delta ended up putting us up for the night due to a lack of crew for the airplane. We were sent to this Sheraton, which we could see from the shuttle pick up spot. Delta gave us the wrong phone number to call for the shuttle, but we cleared that up by talking to the nice man at the Sunport's visitor center. The employee who answered said that the shuttle went "back and forth constantly" but we had to call again because it did not arrive in a very timely manner. The second time we were asked for our name, and the driver recognized the name when he arrived. The drivers, both that night and the next morning, were professional and drove well.
There were several people ahead of us in line to check in. We must have looked hungry because a kind lady offered us all candy from her basket. She may have been from the gift shop. She seemed genuinely concerned for our welfare. The front desk people were efficient and friendly.
Our room was on the 9th floor and I was surprised at how nice it was. Hardwood flooring in the sink area and a large built-in wardrobe made it more elegant and homey than most hotel rooms. I appreciated that the sink had a lot of counter area and was separate from the toilet/bathtub room. There was plenty of space to walk around the king sized bed. There was even a free water bottle for Starwood members. Comfortable bed and bedding, a view of the city lights, free wi-fi that satisfied our needs to look up our flight information-- it was more than I could hope for since I wasn't paying the bill.
We went to the lobby bar to relax a bit. There were large checkerboards set up with checkers and large chess pieces-- great idea! We settled into the bar seats and ordered beverages. The first girl behind the bar said they did not have sparkling wine. Another girl corrected her, and retrieved a bottle of already opened Chandon. She assured me that it had been recently opened, but it was not as bubbly as it should have been. They definitely need to invest in champagne stoppers, as this bottle did not have one. We ordered the ceviche, which was average-- fresh but not outstanding. I liked the bar mix of goldfish crackers, peanuts, etc.-- I enjoy crunchy things with my beverages. The people were a good mix of single people with their electronic devices and groups that were louder, but not obnoxious. Overall the bar experience was enjoyable.
We had a very early flight the next day and had no problem checking out at 4:30am. The front desk was manned and the shuttle driver was already at his post. Excellent.
This hotel made quite an impression for the short time that we were there.
