“Very Nice themed hotel, with hospitable front desk clerk”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2011

Quite enjoyable themed room, friendly helpful service at the front desk, helped us get a room higher up in the back where one could see the Sandia Mountains from the balcony, which is quite enjoyable to relax on. Room was good, nice theme, next time might upgrade as it was a wee bit tight but still good. Quite enjoyed the lobby and the unique vibe to the hotel. Although i do understand a previous guests comments on the restaurant, was very vague and hard to tell if open. Oh do take advantage of the relaxing lobby seating areas though.

Room Tip: make sure you get a room in the back and higher if possible to enjoy the view if possible

My husband and I stayed at the Nativo for one night after I got LASIK eye surgery (it's literally right next door to my eye doctor), so we didn't have to drive back to Santa Fe. The staff were so friendly and helpful and let us check in way early at 9:00 am. The rooms are roomy and decorated with a nice Southwest decor, even down to the carpet which is styled after a Navajo rug. The bed was extremely comfortable, which was great because I needed to sleep most of the afternoon! The only complaint I have was that our room was on the 1st floor near the main entrance and it was a bit noisy in the evening with people hanging out right outside our sliding glass door smoking cigarettes. This was also a problem because the cigarette smoke wafted right into the room. I would highly recommend getting a room on a higher floor or away from the entrance to avoid this. But we couldn't be too choosy since we had to take whatever was available to check in so early. The bathroom was very clean and nice with Aveda toiletries (my favorite!) They have Starbucks coffee to brew in the room and there is a restaurant on-site but we didn't try it. The location is good with easy access on/off the highway I-25 and close to a lot of restaurants. I would recommend this hotel for people wanting something different from the standard chain hotel. The price is also extremely reasonable.

Room Tip: Avoid the first floor near the front entrance

Dear wanderlust817,
I am happy to hear that you took advantage of our strong relationship with the many nearby medical offices that are located near our hotel. We understand that many times the reason for visiting is not always pleasant and it is our goal to make the stay as comfortable as possible. Also thank you for your recommendations to future guests.

We chose this hotel because it was described as "cultrally distinctive." The lobby had museum quality items that were beautiful to behold. It was so inviting that we all chose to use it as our hang out spot. We used the indoor/outdoor pool daily, as well as the hot tub. One night we had an outdoor picnic on the tables by their outdoor teepee. The staff was responsive and the location was close to the freeway and yet quiet enough to be enjoyable. We were able to see some of the balloon fiesta activity right from the window of the fourth floor! I would return to this place again. The only setback was that they charged to use the internet services.

Dear Anaundda E,
Thank you for choosing the Nativo Lodge for your stay as well as host to your "hang out" time. It is always great to hear when guests enjoy our culturally distinctive decorations such as our 14-foot shaman by Horacio Cordova to our authentic New Mexican tepee. We do have a business center that does charge for usage however we provide free wireless internet to all guests throughout the hotel. We do hope to see you again soon and thank you again!

The wife and I (from MD) stayed for 4 nights at the Nativo (during the 40th anniversary of the Baloon Fiesta celebration. We had great weather at a very hospitable hotel. The Nativo is centrally located - convenient to Route 25 going to Santa Fe or the baloon fiesta activities. Numerous food venues; Old Town Plaza; downtown sites; and the U of NM all are quickly accessable with a car from the hotel. Reception staff was cordial, respectful, considerate, helpful and knowledgeable (a great plus). The hotel has great "curb appeal" and had a larger "footprint" than the photos indicated. Housekeeping staff was on the one.
Having praised The Nativo, it was not w/out a few (MINOR) shortcomings:

1. Our room took some getting use to b/c of the insufficient lighting (along w/ the table lamp being loosely connected (not broken mind-u).
2. The bed mattress wasn't firm but a bit overly cushiony & spongy.
3. The TV had ample stations, however no channel menu to ID programing. We just had to either channel surf continuously or memorize a few stations and hope for the best.
4. The sink was outside the door housing the tube/shower and toilet units.
5. It took me a while to figure out how to shift the water from the tub to the shower option. I had to pull the plumbing unit out from the wall w/ FORCE (holding the wall w/ the left hand and pulling the plumbing element w/ the right hand. No easy feat for sure (the wife couldn't or was afraid to do it). I often thought I was going to separate the hardware from the wall (and be charge for the breakage).
6. The air conditioner unit was loud/disturbing for light sleepers. The system loudness needs to be muffled.
7. Slight auto traffic noise from street outside. We had a unit/room facing the parking lot and street.

Hotel and guest rooms are Pueblo Deco - like a museum. You are greeted by a dramatic lobby containing 14 ft. shaman. Location is convenient to old town and tramway and route to Santa Fe. Staff is friendly and helpful. Food is excellent, but not regularly served. Breakfast may or may not be included and service is slow. Views from balconies are spectacular, but significant road noise. If you stay, be sure to look at original art work throughout and seek out the tepee. Guest books not up to date. Overall a delightful experience, unique among hotel chains.

Room Tip: Choose a room with a mountain view. Upper floors have beautiful views. Away from the freeway.

The hotel website photos are very accurate. Lobby area is really interesting and has a lot of southwest Native American ambiance, but a little dark. The front desk is like a cave.

Location is near some major roads/highways, making the location convenient to downtown/old town (10 min. drive) and the Sandia Peak Tramway, but noisy. The weather was comfortable enough for us not to need the air conditioner, and the balcony with mountain view was nice, but the road noise appears to be significant no matter what room you select. We used the air conditioner mainly to drown out traffic for sleeping purposes.

Room was immaculate with tasteful, somewhat sparse decor. A stark contrast to such a dramatic main lobby. No microwave or fridge in room, although there was plenty of room for one. T.V. was old tube set, with ok picture, but not a lot of channels. King bed was heavily padded, but too soft/saggy as others have mentioned. No problems with loud music from night club as we did not stay on a Thursday or Saturday night.

Biggest disappointment was that there was no "complimentary breakfast buffet" as advertised on the hotel's website. This can easily be up to a $20 per night additional expense/value for any couple. Fortunately, we got a great bogo website offer. Starbucks next to hotel, as well as several restaurants, stores, etc. Nativo Lodge, Please Change your Website regarding the complimentary Buffet Breakfast! False advertising.

Overall, a decent stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a 'quiet' mountainview room on an upper floor. Only stay here, if you get a good...

Nativo Lodge is a pleasant hotel, a notch above the chain hotels. Breakfast is a rather haphazard affair, but the rooms are clean and comfortable. Ask for one with a mountain view. It's a good choice if you have family or business in this part of Albuquerque.
