“Nice atmoshpere!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2013

Very nice rooms and service! Rooms were very comfortable, quiet and roomy. Great restaurant on site. Good location. Close to attractions. Walking distance to the farmers market. Farmers market had shade and a variety of items to choose from. Local fruit and vegetables, handmade lotions and soaps and apparel.

We booked this hotel via Priceline and got an excellent price. However, in order to compete with newer hotels, the Hyatt really needs to upgrade. The bathrooms are the first place I would start. They are huge, which is great, but the tub and sink are old and dull. The wallpaper is blah. It wouldn't take much to make these bathrooms much better. There is no fridge in the room, which is very rare for today's hotels. The one bottle of water provided has a $5 price tag on it! There is no free wifi in the rooms, only in the lobby. Beds are comfortable, linens are fine. But everything is dull, dull, dull. With a little freshening up, this could be a much more appealing place.

We ate at the restaurant one night and enjoyed the food very much. It was creative and delicious!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the Sandia mountains....spectacular sunrises and sunsets!

First the good things - when we arrived, we were told our AAA discount covered 2 entries and 2 drinks and breakfast at the attached restaurant, Forque. We asked the desk clerk twice to confirm because that sounded like the best AAA discount ever! Dinner was really superb, way better than the usual hotel restaurant. Breakfast was standard menu affair, or an all you can eat buffet which we opted for, that had a nice selection of hot and cold breakfast items, including eggs cooked to your preference and a nice fresh fruit bar. Of course, upon checkout we were told that our dinner was not included in our AAA membership, but when we said that we were told that by the desk clerk the previous day, they didn't argue at all and comped our dinner($150 - those must have been some pricey specials!). That was good, because it was really the restaurant that made the hotel.
I've never stayed at a Hyatt, but I will say for this caliber of hotel, it didn't seem up to snuff. The pool is "rooftop", but as previous reviewers mentioned, it's really on the roof of the 3rd floor. Nothing particularly special. The room was very clean and comfortable, but came w/o a mini-fridge or microwave (You can ask the desk for a microwave, but they were all out). Even Holiday Inn Express and La Quinta have these items standard - I don't understand why the fancier hotels don't have them. Overall we enjoyed our stay, but we were in Downtown Alb for a particular event - if I was staying in Alb again, I might opt to stay at a less expensive hotel and just go to Forque for dinner.

We are gold members so often stay at the Hyatt. I have stayed at the Hyatt Regency in Albuquerque, NM, a number of times in the past. It was okay but not great. However, on this visit, it was one good experience after another. ALL of the staff, Concierge, Desk clerks, etc., reached out on every occasion to take care of our requests. They were friendly, knowledgeable and professional - particularly Demitrius who went out of her way to arrange a late check out for my son and family since their Jet Blue flight didn't depart until 11 p.m. Whomever the new Manger is, deserves a thumbs up. Another very pleasant surprise was the food in the Forque Dining Room. Amazingly good - scallops that were huge, fresh and well prepared, a rib eye to satisfy any meat eater and excellent fish choices. We actually hosted a party for 12 people and Benjamin was a whiz with the wine selections and ensured excellent service. As they say "you've come a long way, baby." A great place to stay in Albuquerque.

Room Tip: Ask for one with a good view of the mountains.

We're members of Hyatt Vacation club, and platinum members with well over 150,000 points in the bank. We use Hyatt for business, we use them for leisure, and we have well over $20,000 invested in our Hyatt timeshare.
First, the good stuff.
Vanessa at the front desk. She is a gem. She made us feel special, welcome, and went out of her way to take care of us.
The attractive African American woman who was managing Friday evening also worked very hard to take care of us, and I appreciate her efforts.
The concierge... I believe here name was Mary Lou. She was terrific. Very knowledgeable, listened to our wants, and found places and events we never would have found on our own.
So then... The not so good stuff.
We checked into the regency late morning knowing that our room would likely not be ready. Left our luggage and took off to play. We were traveling for our anniversary so I requested a suite with a view.
We returned at 8:30 and the bellman took us to our suite. Turns out, there was a wedding reception taking place in the next suite. Lots of people yapping in the halls, lots of noise, and a piano player. Not happening. We called the manager who came to our room and acknowledged the absurdity of this situation. She took immediate action and bumped us up to the presidential suite which was unoccupied... or so we all thought.
So we get to the suite, we open the door and some sort of animal comes running towards us...
We close the door. The manager asks our patience while she goes inside to see why there is an animal in the room. She goes, we wait. A few minutes later she comes out of the room with an exasperated look on her face... she apologizes and says "you don't want to know".
Looks like we're not spending the night there. We head to the lobby while she checks for something that can salvage this comedy of errors. We end up in a very large suite on the second floor. Very large space, but rather plain. At this point the evening is shot and we're pretty whipped. We left early the next day.
We have to ask ourselves... what kind of hotel checks people in next door to a party. What kind of hotel has unscheduled guests in their presidential suite? As mentioned above, the hotel does have some very good employees... but this was ridiculous. They did comp us the stay, as they should, however we are at this point questioning our loyalty to the Hyatt brand. We have recently had enough questionable experiences that have us thinking of switching our alliance to Westin or Sheraton. It would be a shame, but they bring this on themselves.

We have stayed at the Hyatt Regency in Albuquerque many times in the past. This time there is evidence that the hotel may be in decline. We didn't receive the number of towels ordered. When the toilet backed up it took 5 calls and over two hours to get a response. I intend to travel there again and hope the hotel returns to its old high standards.

Room Tip: Get high on the north side You can see balloons ascend in the morning. Especially important durin...
