“Great Convention Center Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2012

If you're in Albuquerque for a convention, the location of this hotel is hard to beat. The convention center is across the street. They also accept shipments. They charge $10 a box, but it was cheaper than sending to our stuff to the convention center. They were also very quick to bring it out of the storeroom.

Valet parking is $18 a day, not cheap, but parking on the street is not a great option. The hotel staff was very helpful and accommodating. The room was clean and well appointed. This Hyatt is above average of the three Hyatt's we've stayed at in the last year.

Had a conference at this property and the hotel was good for that purpose. The hotel staff were very helpful and the meeting rooms were in good condition. My group plans to continue using the property. Just a reminder plan to use cabs or personal cars to get to old town.

actually came into town to see the balloon festival. had a reservation at the hyatt. in the hoopla of the festival, they made us feel very welcomed. they themselves were very overwhelmed. however, they did very well. the rooms were clean and nice. a bit sterile. the amenities were nice. they have a starbucks on site. the gym was ok. did not have a chance to look at anything else. the location in downtown was close to some of the attractions especially access to the airport. it is a bit of a drive from santa fe, the balloon fairgrounds, and the museums. but then again its new mexico so everything is spread out. overall, nothing incredible but a nice stay.

Our superior room was large and well appointed. The bed was outstanding...one of the most comfortable of all time. The contemporary wall art was unusally upscale. The bathroom was standard size with a standard shower/tub combination. The climate control system worked well. All in all, very comfortable.

Surprisingly, the room did not have a mini-bar, safe nor coffee-maker. More surprisingly, shower caps were not provided.

The area immediately around the hotel is barren. There are no restaurants, bars or shops nearby. Central Avenue, 3-4 blocks away, did have an assortment of low-brow biker bars. The area is also apparently unsafe as the hotel warns guests not to walk or run outside during nightime hours.

Hello PickyaboutHotels: Great choice with your name! We thank you for the candid 4-star review and appreciate the feedback regarding your room. Guest amenities are readily available upon request and we will deliver to your room as quickly as possible. We also have 24-hour on-site security and want each guest to always feel safe and cared for when staying with us.

You are correct that we do not have an in-room mini bar, however, our in-room dining would be delighted to pre-stock a refrigerator with your choice of sodas, wine and beer. We also have two bars on property (Forque Kitchen and Bar and HQue Lounge) and our bartenders will make any beverage of your choice. In addition, our award winning restaurant is located right on property and our Chefs are always eager to accommodate all taste buds with a Southwestern flair.

We do have an active downtown entertainment district which is filled with live music every night and home to a vibrant symphony orchestra as well as cutting-edge theater, dance and comedy troupes.

It is always our goal to exceed our guests expectations and invite you back to give us another try. Please contact me directly if your travel plans should bring you back to the Duke City!

We stay in Albuquerque for every special event we can. We have never stayed at the Hyatt but the two hotels we usually stay at were already booked. I booked this hotel back in May for the annual balloon fiesta. We walked in the hotel after our truck was checked in with the valet. The young man at the counter was nice enough. We asked him for a 2:00am wake up call to be up in time for the Balloon Fiesta and thankfully I set the alarm on my phone because we never received a call. We called down to the valet for our truck 20 minutes before we left that morning and when we got down to the lobby our truck was still not there. My husband had explained that there was a security feature on the truck to any and all of the valets and on the phone when we called down. We waited another 20 minutes for our truck and it wasn't until my husband approached one of the men that they finally brought it up. You would think that for this being the Hyatt they would be used to nice vehicles with security measures in place and would communicate to one another. The lobby looks modern and beautiful. Once we got to our room though I was left wondering if we were still in the same hotel we checked into. The rooms are old and they look and feel that way. The bed we got was supposed to be a King but it sure looked like a Queen. We have a King bed at home and the bed in our room at the Hyatt was significantly smaller. Furniture was stained. I got cold water in my shower at 3:00am. And the toilet wouldn't flush properly. You would have to flush it three times at least to get the toilet paper down. We ordered room service one afternoon for lunch and prices were reasonable. The food on the other hand was not great. This is NM and I don't know of one place that serves sweet pickles on their green chile cheese burgers. Yuck. We ordered Kraft Mac & Cheese from the kids menu for my daughter and I don't know how you can mess that up but they accomplished that. They added extra cheese and it made it sweet and not tasty for a kid. We wanted to go out to the "roof top" pool. This is not roof top, it's on the third floor. The jacuzzi was freezing as well as the pool so that was a bust. I thought for sure that for this being the Hyatt Regency we were going to have the type of stay that we usually do at other 4 star Albuquerque hotels but this was a bust. I will make my reservations for Balloon Fiesta in November this year to ensure I get the hotel I want.

The hotel is really just average. Room could be updated but is comfortable enough. Staff is friendly but service could definitely be better.

When we checked in the hotel we asked about transportation to the airport early next morning. The girl at the front desk gave us a number to call "Sunport shuttle". I asked her if taking a cab would be better but she said "they're the same". So we called and booked the shuttle. The next morning the shuttle was a no show – we waited for half an hour (from 5:30am) and called multiple times, each time getting a different story. Finally had to just get a cab – which was conveniently waiting just outside on the curb and cost the same amount as the shuttle. When we called the shuttle the last time they claimed they had came to pick us up half an hour ago, which was a big lie (and not the first one they told). I don't understand why the hotel would recommend this shuttle which is both unprofessional and dishonest, perhaps they have a deal with them.

The service at the hotel restaurant, Forque, was also disappointing. Service was slow, their new menu was misprinted and the wait staff weren't familiar with it. My salad came missing ingredients and when I asked the waitress just said "oh, maybe they ran out of ... sorry." And they forgot about an order of tapas. When we finally asked about it they were apologetic and gave it to us free. But really the service should be better.

Room Tip: If you need transportation to the airport, avoid "sunport shuttle", take the taxi!

Thank you for your review of your most recent stay, catinthesun. I regret that your stay was not perfect and want to oppportunity to change your mind. It is our goal to earn nothing but the highest ratings from all of our guests. I also apologize that you waited for what may have seen like an eternity for your shuttle. We usually don't experience problems with the shuttle service but will review the situation and resolve why you weren't picked up.

I will be sure to share your comments with the Forque Kitchen & Bar management, culinary team and associates to look at the service and food to ensure it extraordinary.

Please contact me directly if you are coming to town again. I know we can make your next visit more special and I would personally ensure of it. I think your next review would be different.

This hotel looks good. Great lounge area and staff seem professional. Rooms are great. But then I do not expect the restaurant to be just average. Evening meal was nothing special.

It took ages to check out as doing the bill with full company name and address and country is not something the system can cope with, ie not that international after all. I expect that in a hotel of this calibre. There was also problems with the lifts. Some cards did not work and the lifts took ages in arriving.

Worst though was the breakfast buffet (during an exhibition): the toasters did not work most of the time, the staff seemed too eager to get high tips and the fruit was average.
