4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 20, 2013

Staff was friendly, check in went smoothly, room was clean and bed was comfy. Elevator/s weren't working properly...skipped floors, stopped between floors and were generally very slow. Ours skipped our floor and went to the one above, we pushed for our floor and it started down then stopped between floors. Had to push the buttons for several floors before it moved and finally took us to our floor. After we settled into our room we wanted to sit in the hot tub. Waited for almost 10 minutes for an elevator so us and another guy who was also waiting, decided to just use the stairs to go to the pool area. To our surprise the doors at the bottom of stairs are connected to the fire alarms so there is no way to get outside without using an elevator (at least we couldn't find one). We followed some of the other exit signs and finally found another elevator that worked properly. Informed the desk person who said they knew about the problem, the elevators are old, and they had put in a call to the elevator repair company. There was an "out of service" sign on the elevator the next morning. Once we got to the hot tub we discovered that it was luke warm, the jets were blowing cold water so you didn't want to sit in front of them and it was full of the buds from a nearby tree. We did sit in it for less than 10 minutes and went back to the room where I had to remove the buds that were stuck to my skin and inside my suit. Didn't go into the restaurant so can't comment on it. We were just passing through so really only needed somewhere to sleep and the room fit the bill.

I hate to be negative, but our stay here was not good. There were problems, chief of which was waking up after a 12 hour series of flights only to find that our shower did not work. We were not happy campers.

We waited until the general manager came to work, explained the issue, and received a full refund. But I pointed out that they need to do a lot of work on an old property to bring it up to standards that travelers these days expect.

The pros: large room, comfortable beds, all the amenities I wanted, quiet, good restaurant dinner. Cons: 1) took 35 minutes and 2 calls to get airport shuttle to pick me up at rental car center; 2) alarm clock didn't ring; 3) at dinner, restaurant gave me hard time when I asked for a glass of sangria; and 4) left my slacks in room; had hard time contacting Housekeeping from next city, and it would take them a week from my call to get the slacks in the mail. Now, this was the first night of a RoadScholar tour, and there's no option below for traveling with a group so I'll pick traveling with friends, even though I didn't have any at this point.

Room Tip: Top floor was very quiet.

Thank you for your review, the Pros, and the honest Cons:

1) We are located 10 to 15 minutes from the airport in the Albuquerque Old Town district. If the van just left the airport when you arrived, it could take a while for it to get to the hotel, unload guests, and drive back to pick you up. Most of our guests arrive by car, so the van is usually sitting at the hotel, available and ready. I'm sorry the timing did not work out well for you.

2) Our alarm clocks are special single set clock / radios. If they are set correctly, they do work correctly, every time. The problem is that with any new piece of technology, one can miss a setup step, and not know it. We also make wake-up calls with the hotel telephone when guests request that. I find that when I travel, I unplug the clock radio to use the receptacle and prevent older style clocks from still containing the last guest's alarm setting. I then use my own smart phone alarm. If getting up precisely on time is important, then I also request a wake-up call as a backup.

3) I wish we did not have to ask for ID when serving alcohol to adults. But our state alcohol and gaming division as well as the city are both brutal about that. If a server ever makes a mistake in judging someone's age, then that server has a risk of being taken straight to jail. The state and city both run constant stings trying to catch a server in a mistake. When they catch a mistake, the server is taken directly to jail. Every server in every establishment in New Mexico and particularly Albuquerque should be cautious. So please understand why our servers may seem over-cautious.

4) Lost and found items are sent within 24 hours of the call, period. Many times the same day as the call. What you may have misunderstood is that the USPS can take a week to deliver something. There are over night and two day shipping options, but we charge that fast shipping fee to the guest. Most of the time, it is not worth the cost of overnight or 2 day shipping.

My question: You rated us Excellent for Location, Sleep Quality, Rooms, and Cleanliness. You rated us Average for Value and Service. That is 4 Excellent and 2 Average, or a mathematical average between Very Good and Excellent. Yet you gave us an Overall Score of Terrible? Was that a mistake?

As best as I can tell, we did 1 thing wrong. We failed to make sure you understood that it takes the Post Office (not us) up to a week to deliver. Other than that, the van was likely at an inconvenient location when you called. The wait staff / server did exactly what our governments demand they do. And if you had asked, we would have made a wake-up call and/or sent someone to your room to show you how to operate the clock radio.

Please call either the General Manager, or the Director of Sales, or leave a message for me, to discuss your review and experience with us.

Phil, managing member.

We love the shops and restaurants and shops at Old Town in Albuquerque and this is within easy walking distance. It is not a 5 star facility, but is more than satisfactory for a few nights when you visit Albuquerque. The rooms were clean and the beds comfortable. I would not hesitate to stay here again.

Room Tip: The Inn is L shaped and one side faces the freeway, ask for a room facing the other direction, it wi...

Nice. Comfortable beds. Great staff to answer all our questions. Good location to walk to Old Town and from the airport. Just by the interstate and can hear the traffic, but was not a real big deal. Plan on coming back in 2 weeks and stay again.

We were booked into the hotel by a tour provider and, having had ok experiences at other Best Western hotels, we were looking forward to a relaxed stay. The rooms were clean, though mine had recently been painted and the smell became stronger as the night drew on. Didn't want the hassle of repacking and moving to another room so put up with it.
Breakfast, however, was a joke. We were put at a table which hadn't been prepared, no cups or silverware, and given grotty looking menus. The chap who sat us went off to get the coffee we'd asked for, then having put this on the table went off again to get mugs. The "Head waiter" came to take our order and seemed annoyed that we were only ordering toast and cereal, obviously not enough for him to worry about. We asked for milk for the coffee and sat waiting for it to come. Had to ask the waitress to bring some after we had waited some time for it to arrive and she sauntered off to get some.
After half an hour it became apparent that our order had been forgotten and the "Head waiter" made a play of repeating our order to us then going to the kitchen to bring it. One packet of cornflakes & 2 slices of toast and milk for the cornflakes in a glass! Thankfully we checked that breakfast was included as we certainly wouldn't have paid for it.
We will be contacting our tour provider to get this hotel taken from their books and also to get a refund for our money.

Room Tip: Go somewhere else for breakfast!
