Mauger Estate is a beautifully restored, well kept and impressively run Victorian mansion turned B&B, nestled in a quiet Albuquerque neighborhood. It is within walking distance of historic Old Towne and there are many inexpensive and tasty restaurants close by, some of which are also within walking distance.
I spent a week at Mauger and it was truly a wonderful experience. The room was very comfortable and cozy - I hardly noticed the November cold that was creeping in to Albuquerque during my stay. They have central heating but each room also has it's own separate heating system. It's an old fashioned style of heating that I hadn't encountered before but I didn't have any issues with the room being too cold for comfort.
The staff, consisting of Tammy, who is the owner, and Christie are very friendly and helpful and go out of their way to make sure their guests are comfortable. They also act as a concierge and give plenty of advice on things to do and see, how to get around, and where and what to eat while in Albuquerque. They will also book tours or make reservations for you if necessary.
Breakfast is served from 8:00am to 9:00am on weekdays and 8:30am to 9:30am on weekends. If your day has an earlier start than that, you can also request a breakfast-to-go which they will prepare for you either the night before or leave out for you in the morning.
Breakfast was one of the best parts of my stay. I am not a morning person and I typically don't eat much for breakfast, but I made a point of trying to get up in time for breakfast every morning. Aside from staples like fruit and cereal, they had their own home-made granola which was delicious and everyday there was a different baked dish that never disappointed and was the highlight of the meal.
I can't express enough how happy I am that I found Mauger and decided to stay there. This was my first visit to New Mexico and Mauger made it a truly enjoyable stay. I will definitely stay at Mauger the next time I'm in Albuquerque! I highly recommend them to anyone visiting the area.
