“Does have great location for Nob Hill area but not in summer”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2012

The main problem was the a/c didn't not cool, only moved air around a little. In the fall or spring, that probably wouldn't be a problem. We walked next door to Kelly's Brewery (really great find!) and thought the room would cool down by the time we got back - wrong. Too tired to look for another hotel we stayed. Owner's dog was tied up and barked a little during the day but didn't see it after dark. Bedding seems pretty worn, could use some updating.

Room Tip: Check out the room (water, a/c. bedding, TV) before renting.

Stayed a couple nights with a girl friend. First room we were put in had a few bugs crawling around the bathroom and some noise was very noticeable sort of like running water or a fan running somewhere. We asked to move to a quieter room and they obliged. The second night we stayed right out the back windows was a college party at a house only about 20 feet behind the motel that went on til 3 or 4 in the AM. Beds actually felt firm and OK but I was very afraid of catching bugs in this place. Oh yeah and there was only water pressure with cold. As soon as you tried to use hot - I mean warm - the pressure went to a trickle. Will never stay at this place again. Several people actually appear to be living in many of the rooms too.

I checked in for 2 weeks and am actually here now as Im writing this. When I first checked in, the old lady in the front office, Olivia said she had a "real nice" room for me, like I was special. Come to find out, the TV got one channel. Room service is once a week for weekly tenents. The best thing I can say is the Location is alright and the price was decent BUT not only is the old lady at the front desk nosey and snoops into rooms while the tenants are away (Ive watched her going through personal belongings when she didnt know I was watching) but her two Alcoholic sons live there as well and party ALL night while entertaining their friends. The daughter also lives there. All in the Family. Oh and one of the sons keeps his dog running freely about the place. I wasnt comfortable walking around while the dog was growling on my back side. The shower and toilet drains hardly work at all. Make sure you bring the gallon jug of Bleach. There seem to be several upset drunks living there, screaming profanities at imaginary people. The prices did seem to change depending on if your a man or woman, single or married. My old drug dealer stayed here and recommended it to me. The rooms do offer a Microwave and Refrigerator. Oh and the local phone calls are included and there is Cable TV. The internet connection DID actually work well. Ok for singles who like to care less but if your halfway respectable with a wife and husband and kids, do yourself a favor and DON'T STAY THERE. Its a wee bit embarrasing and smells a bit old in the rooms. Other than that, it totally rocks....NOT.

Room Tip: Don't stay at the HiWay House.

I did read the reviews and was a little worried, but as soon as I arrived and checked in I was really pleased. I stayed for just over 3 weeks as I settled my son into UNM. The Motel is central in Nob hill great eating places, bars and shops. The staff - its family run were friendly and helpful. The room was cleaned every day by Paul and you never wanted for anything.
For the price and location you can't go wrong.

I made the mistake of writing a favorable review based on a 2009 stay. Here it goes second time around. This motel appears to be in decline. The room itself was adequate, however there were major bathroom problems. The worst being the bath didn't drain properly. After three days of zero bathroom cleaning it was looking pretty nasty. The cleaning staff who appeared to be the motel's general handy-man didn't seem bothered about this.
It's too bad it's like this. Under the right management this place should do well given the great location. (Walk out to the restaurants on Central Av and to UNM).
Only considering staying here if you want an experience and have no car. Otherwise pick a hotel elsewhere and drive in for meals/evenings out.
This rerview is based on 2 stays of 3 days each.

Paid for a one week stay. The room was a snap shot in time from the early 60's, unfortunately that was the last time anything was done except for minimal cleanining. I slept on top of the sheets with blankets I supplied. I received new (fresh?) towels on my last day.
When the tolilet backed up I was rudely awakened by a screaming women, who was sleeping on the lounge chair in the office when I checked in (Boy can she snore).
.The Knob Hill neighborhood is wonderful with resturaunts, eclectic stores and entertainment. If your after some material for a short story, give it a shot (be sure to verify room rates, as they seem to vary from day to day).

Have to stay in this place because it was the only the conference paid for. Location is the only good thing about it. Very noisy. Very few and small towels. This was non-smoking room, but it has strong tobacco smell (maybe coming from outside, the windows didn't seem to keep neither noise nor smoke out.
