“2 Hour Trip to the Zoo”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 7, 2014

The day we went to the zoo just happened to be buy one get one Sunday so it was super economical. Not sure how often that special is offered. We arrived at the zoo around 3:30 and it seemed all the animals were just waking from there afternoon naps and were ready to entertain there guests! We had a great time watching the apes, monkeys, and gorillas as they were all very active. Also loved the peacocks that hang out around the "grass" area. At this time of day the crowds were thinning and it was very easy to get around. I would recommend this zoo if you have a couple extra hours in town with or without kids - definitely worth it.

“Surprisingly Large and Varied”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2014

Half the fun of going to the Rio Grande Zoo is watching not just the animals, but the people, too. Albuquerque is an interesting place filled with a varied cast of characters, and there's something about the Rio Grande Zoo that seems to draw a wide variety of them to the same place. So, in between browsing gorillas and polar bears, take a look around at the folks who've made the same trek you have. Always interesting.

What surprises most folks about the RGZ is it's size and diversity of exhibits. For a city of it's size, Albuquerque has a pretty impressive zoo. Make sure to see the polar bear feeding (2:30 PM everyday), it's a lot of fun. They've got the big cats here, apes, and my personal favorites koalas. Be aware that it will be difficult to see all the animals in one trip. It is a large facility, and it merits taking two trips, or more. Do yourself a favor and buy a season pass. You'll save money over the long term, and you can get into the botanical gardens/aquarium, too!

“Impressive for the size of this city”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2014

Quite a variety of animals to observe. Many refreshment stands throughout. Great for kids. There is even a train that connects to the nearby Biological Park.

“Cool Zoo”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2014

Took my grandchildren to the zoo and we had a blast. It is not a huge zoo but the animals are well cared for and the zoo was clean. Of course lots of food and drink available. We took the train over to the Bio park which was a little disappointing. I had heard so much about the Bio Park but it turned out to be small and not a lot of attractions. Downsides: long wait to take the train, was very hot when we went and not a lot of shade to stop and rest.

“Okay for a zoo”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2014

Great Zoo. Volunteers were great. Only thing is most exhibits were closed, very few signs telling you where to go and it was VERY SMELLY. I visit zoos in pretty much every city I visit and I've never had to run through an exhibit because of the smell...the worst....FLAMINGOS
