“Good food, romantic setting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 1, 2014

The food was very good, very rich, so we split our meals, which was more than enough food for both of us.

“Is it the food or the atmosphere matters?”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 25, 2013

I confess that I am neither a connoisseur nor a sophisticate. I am a practical man looking past the marketing and psychology of retail to the quality and value of the product. Yes this restaurant is on an historic property which a local treasure. Granted the privilege of sitting at the Los Pablanos table only by appointment adds to the feeling of exclusivity. There is an understated elegance to the environment. The wait staff was exceptional and seemed knowledgeable and enthused.

Now for the actual product…was the food good? The food was so-so. We ordered the cheese sampler (not their name) and it was fun and tasted okay, but overpriced. I had the rib eye steak. It tasted more like pot roast, which is not unpleasant, but I would not agree to pay $36.00 for pot roast. Our meal price totaled $86.00. I gave the food a grade of “B”.

If you want ambiance and atmosphere and to impress your date go to Los Poblanos. If you want exceptionally tasting food for a reasonable price there are other venues in Albuquerque.

“A blast of the past”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 10, 2013

This was a surprise celebration for my husband after being transplanted here for three months. We arrived after dark and were welcomed by a brief stroll through lighted trees and into the ranchero. There was such a homey feel from the start. Once in the courtyard, there were clear signs on how to get to the restaurant. The hostess was warm and welcoming. Our waitress happened to have moved here from the same state as us! She was informative about the history of the place as well as the food. Everything we had was fresh, warm and delicious, from the bread, appetizer, main dish and dessert. There were unique combinations of tastes and sensations in the appetizer and entree.

“Spectacular setting, great food grown locally and on-site”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2013

We had a dinner at Los Poblanos on our last night in New Mexico. We went for an early dinner at La Merienda, as we planned to take the gondola ride to Sandia Peak to enjoy the sunset. We made a reservation and were seated right on time. We started with a pupusa plate (a local twist on a traditional dish from El Salvador), the field plate salad (shared), along with some Gruet brut and Centine rose. Then, on to the Muscovy duck with a glass of Nebbiolo and an evening special of seared Ahi tuna. We shared a special dessert and wrapped up.
Our server, Michelle, made sure things were going well. The service was excellent and unobtrusive, yet attentive when needed.
This is a really special place. All of the food is fresh, grown either locally or on-site in their own garden. The price was reasonable for the quality of food and the beautiful setting. It was a really good evening, maybe not "one of the best" but pretty close. I'd go back here on our next visit to the area.
