“Great place, fun atmosphere”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 20, 2014

While visiting the area for a large soccer tournament, our team stopped here for dinner 1 night. The food was very good, the portions were quite filling, and the price and environment were great. It is a fun place for a large group to eat or a smaller family to enjoy as well.

“Delicious Pene Green Chili Chicken”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2014

Pardon the spelling--it's direct from Saggios menu. We make a point to eat here before each performance we attend at Popejoy Hall. It is convenient, serving wine & beer, espresso, Italian desserts and great pasta, salads and pizza. Portions are huge (except, perhaps, if you are a starving student) and prices are good considering we always have enough to take home for at least one more meal. Our favorite is the Green Chile Chicken Penne in Basil Cream Sauce. It is delicious. Try as I might, I cannot recreate this dish at home. Visit their website for glimpses of the huge mural covering one wall. It is endlessly entertaining. The indoor fountain adds a touch of ambience (kitsch?) as does the accordionist who plays old standards on some Friday nights. If we lived closer, Saggios would be our home away from home. Oh--you can't tip the staff. A pleasant surprise and evidence they pay their staff well. The service is always great--more evidence the staff is well paid.

“Delicious but pizza hasn't been as good lately”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 15, 2014

I love this place, but the slices have been very poor quality the past few months. The sw turkey sandwich is amazing and so are the canolis.

“5 Star Rarity”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2014

Tucked in a side street, across from the Main UNM campus is this homestyle Italian Restaurant called Saggio's. Nothing fancy here, you have to walk up to the counter and order, but the food was fabulous. I tried the chicken cacciatore, something that is more than spaghetti, and found it so good, I was sopping up the broth with bread. Now that my son is attending UNM, I will be a regular. Find it, you'll be happy.

“Good Eats, Good Prices”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 10, 2014

Saggio's is half a block from UNM. The decor is pretty wild and may appeal to students. You stand in line to place your order, then sit and wait for it to be made. The food is very good, portions are large, and prices are low. Again, it ought to appeal to students. We had to take half our lunch home; it was too much to eat. It was very busy when we were there, and this is summer semester. It's noisy and crowded and there is no table service. I haven't been in college in many decades, and prefer their "sister" restaurant, Fastino's, on Juan Tabo. The food is the same but it's smaller, quieter, less crazy.
