Locals consider Garduno's to be a Tourist Trap. Rarely will you see a true connoisseur of Mexican food dining at, or recommending this establishment. With the bland flavored green chile they serve, that tastes more like bell pepper than chile, most don't consider this to be truly authentic Mexican food. It's is classified more as Tex-Mex, than New-Mex.
Honestly, you can't throw a rock around here & not hit a simply fantastic Mexican food restaurant in Albuquerque, & Garduno's, especially the on Montgomery has become to commercialize. Visitor’s from out of state seem drawn to the Mariachi Bands, & their Hispanic rendition of German Um Pa music, but to locals, once you’ve heard a Mexican Street Band, you’re heard them all.
But on the other hand, the Garduno’s location on 4th St. is actually pretty good. And if you're a true "Gringo" that can't handle spicy chile, I would recommend Garduno's on 4th to you. Still you may want to request your chile to be put on the side.
