I was here for a family reunion / Balloon Fiesta. This is a summary of comments from me and 11 others - only discussed issues in-depth with two others so I'm betting we're missing a few things. I wasn't going to even take the time for this, but they are asking for five-star reviews on TripAdvisor. It is long as I was trying to capture everything as not all complaints would register with everyone. I would have included pictures, but given 3i and trying to upload some pictures to Facebook, I didn't even try and I din't want to spend the time cropping and re-sizing to make the smaller. Where to start?
1. Hotel is like an MC Escher drawing (Ascending and Descending 1960) and isn't ADA compliant - if you take the elevator (three stories) there is always at least one half flight of stairs. Not an issue for me except when trying to get heavy bags to/from rooms. All the rooms are accessed by leaving the building so I hope the weather isn't raining or snowing for you.
2. Underground, room key access only, dimly lit, "secured" parking area routinely open as late as 10 pm.
(a) Electrical outlets: in the master bedroom, there are two lamps at the head of the bed (left/right) and a clock radio. Pick any two of the three. Need a place to plug in your cell phone by the head of bed on the night stand, I hope you brought a really long (6' will just about make it) charging cable. Although I'm on vacation, I still have to keep in touch with the office. There is one free outlet by the desk providing I would like light to work by. OK if all you have is a laptop/tablet and not both. What if you would like to charge your cell phone while working at your desk and only have a wall charger. Various outlets have a lot of wiggle room when you plug something in and don't always maintain a secure connection.
(b) Mattresses are either too soft or in need of replacement
(c) No hand towels in the bathroom where presumably you might wash your hands after going to the toilet. Also, one soap is provided for this room so you are switching between the sink and shower. No soap tray by the sink. To be fair, there is vanity sink in the master bedroom which had hand towels and a second soap, but I don't want to walk around the corner and perhaps disturb someone else in another room.
(d) Mother-in-law's toilet overflowed. Continued to have issues flushing although it had been reported to the front desk.
(e) West facing rooms even with thermal curtains get hot even with them curtains closed. When open, it was stifling. And that was on a day the high temp was in the low 60's - I hate to think what the rooms are like when it's summer.
(f) Generally not well insulated and very noisy rooms for both external sounds and the rooms next to you.
(g) Refrigerator that didn't cool. Problem solved but putting the filled ice bucket in. But then I heard multiple people complain about lack of ice.
(h) TVs are a mix of tube and flat screen. I wouldn't bother to bring this up as I almost never watch TV in hotels but the mix of devices made me curious: the flat screens are not high def - when you look at picture it is either being scaled up or a stretched 480i.
(i) The privacy / security latch to our door had been broken off and never been replaced. It has now.
(j) Building has warped enough you can't close the door between the master bedroom and living area without effort; there is a gap of .75" at the bottom of the exterior door.
(k) Issues heating the room after it did get cold; opposite of (e) but then this day didn't get above mid-50's.
(i) Internet is so poor is be almost unusable from a speed prospective for work. Even casual web surfing suffers from poor page load speeds. We are in last room on a row. Only my laptop with an external USB adapter and 6" antenna has a reliable connection. Two different model cell phones and two (same model) tablets have a very hard time maintaining a reliable connection. Building interiors seems to be better so be careful what room you are assigned if this is must have item. Internet did go down completely for several hours one day.
(m) Some of the towels and blankets have stains / not bright white from improper washing (not using industrial bleach) or being kept too long.
(n) Our "do not disturb" door hanger is cracked and fixed with duct tape. Really, you couldn't just throw it away?
(o) Room with a Jacuzzi tub has no place to put the towels for when you get out. My mother-in-law was insistent that the on/off switch being on the other side of the room was an issue so I will include it.
(p) The rooms are fairly spacious but the lighting, thanks to the number of lamps and CFL bulbs, the rooms are dimly lit.
(q) Missing battery from smoke detector - two rooms.
4. The external building needs lots of work.
(a) The have these ~6'x6' box flower beds and there is trash (some) and weeds (in all) rampant.
(b) Security lights out or just missing.
(c) There were furniture items also scattered about on the day of arrival so it was a mini obstacle course to get my mother-in-law's room with her bags. Some items were still present the next day so I think there might be some remodeling going on.
(d) Chipped paint and stonework
5. Building interior
(a) Pool is cloudy and heavily chlorinated. Whirlpool jets broken - the parts are supposed to be on order.
(b) Dirty carpet - both stained and in need of vacuuming
(c) Chipped paint
(d) Broken ornamental objects
(e) Don't use the authorized smoking section with out propping open the door as you will be locked out.
(f) Ran out of coffee more than once in the lobby.
I'm out of time so this will have to do for now.
