“Very Dissappointed in Rooms, but nice staff”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 12, 2013

Our family, a group of five, stayed here for a week over the New Years Holiday. We had come here about three years ago and stayed here then and I think we were using the same broken furniture then. The kids couldn't sleep on the fold out couch because...well, only half of it was standing. The staff at the desk was very courteous and allowed me to "hunt" room-to-room to find a better 2-queen unit for us to move, but EVERY room I looked at was run down and had some very serious need for updating. I understand some of the King rooms have been updated. The pool is WONDERFUL!!!! it's warm and we all had fun. I wish the staff and pool could overrate the disappointment in the room - but for $10 more a night we could have stayed in a room at the Residence Inn where they have a stove, oven and all kitchen accessories (plates, silverware...).....AND A POOL.

Room Tip: Only stay here if you want an updated KING room!!! Even the indoor pool and breakfast can't com...

“Older but Comfortable”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2013

The rooms were older but comfortable and clean. Breakfast was very good with excellent service.
Centrally located and priced very good. We were there during the Balloon Festival and would stay there again. Underground parking is a big plus.

Room Tip: Get an inside room away from the street side of the building.

“Loved It!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2013

Rooms are large and clean, staff was very friendly and helpful! Pool, hot-tub, and only $15 for a dog, which is a great price! Staff is a huge deal to me, and the staff were all very courteous. The only down side was that I thought the beds were a little hard, but my wife liked them, so that is really more of a personal preference. For the value, this is by far one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in!

Room Tip: Check travel brochures for coupons! I've used coupons both times I stayed here and got an even...

“Great Staff, But Desperately in Need of Updates.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2013

We have been coming to the Barcelona for about 25 years now, and in it's day it was a beautiful stylish place to stay.. but it desperately needs updates now. The rooms are roomy, but totally outdated and in need of repairs and TLC. For the price and amenities, it is not too bad if you just want room for a large group or family, but it could be so much better. The cook to order breakfast is nice, as long as you don't ask for two slices of bacon AND two sausage patties.
The best part of the stay is definitely the staff. When you check in you are treated like you are staying at a 4-5 star hotel. But when you get to the room, it drops to a 2.5 star. So much potential, hope someone comes in to rescue it soon.

Thank you for your kind comments about our hotel. We have taken your comments very seriously and have already upgraded the bedding in our rooms. We are hoping to add flat screen tvs as well. We are also to add additional upgrades later this year. We hope you will stay with us again so to experience these improvements.

Thank you again.

“Not bad...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2013

I read a lot of reviews before deciding to book the Barcelona Suites New Years Party package. Let me first start by saying that the experience in and of itself depends upon your level of expectation for the area in which you're staying... If you are familiar with Albuquerque, keep this in mind. Other than that, here is my review based on my experience.

1. From the outside, the property does not look like much, but once inside you will find a well-maintained, pretty, old-world Spanish style decor. Stained glass windows overhead and a pretty atrium.

2. Front desk was very cordial, helful, and friendly.

3. Parking (underground) was spacious and secure.

4. Upon entering our room (2-room suite, 2 queen beds and sleeper sofa), we noticed the room was ice cold. We turned up the heat on the thermostat and headed to dinner. When we returned, the room had not warmed at all, so we contacted the front desk to find out what the problem was. Maintenance came a bit later and solved the problem. About 1-hour later, the room finally warmed enough for us to change for the party. Noise level outside and above us (we were on floor one/plaza azul) was a bit loud. Children running around outside the room and stomping above made it difficult to sleep in. It also appeared that there are some guests at the hotel who use it as a residence... So there was some trash, cigarette butts (and smokers) outside of the room areas within the courtyard. The room itself was clean.

5. Party was held in the atrium. A mix of attendees in age, taste in music, etc. About 200 people attended. One thing we did notice was the amount of security personnel on hand... Definitely a necessity, since there were at least three fights throughout the night. DJ was OK, but he could have played more popular music to keep people dancing.

6. Bartenders... This is my big point of contention! There were two, probably not enough... But these two were not only slow, but confused and disorganized. On more than one instance, we waited 15 minutes or more to get a drink. Very frustrating!

7. The champagne toast and midnight buffet were great! Garcia's never disappoints, and there was PLENTY for everyone.

All in all, we made it a fun time and for the price it wasn't too bad. My only suggestions would be to ensure that the rooms were in order before guests arrive, that there are more than two bartenders (or at least two experienced bartenders), and keep a handle on the guest room courtyard areas for noisy neighbors and cleanliness.
