“Great and locally owned”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2013

I have been going to the Flying Star since the early 1990s, when it was called Double Rainbow and they only had one location in Nob Hill, just east of the University of New Mexico. There are now a number of locations around Albuquerque and one in Bernalillo and one in Santa Fe. It is one of my families favorite places and now there is one within walking distance of our house. The food is excellent. They use locally grown produce. The prices may sometimes be a bit higher than some other similar restaurants and bakeries, but we have found the quality to be much higher too. We often get cakes from the Flying Star for special family events. We frequently go to our local Flying Star for breakfast, which is especially good, and we often take visitors to the Flying Star for breakfast. They are open until around 11 pm or midnight depending on the location. They have free wifi and free refills on coffee.

The owners support local public broadcasting and local dog and cat adoption groups. They are also pet friendly and you can bring your dogs to the outdoor "petio" when the weather is nice.

There are a number of coffee shops around town, called Satellite Coffee, that have the same owner and have a selection of the same pastries and menu items.

“You will NOT be disappointed - GUARANTEED!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 12, 2012

This restaurant uses fresh, organic and healthy ingredients (forget their scrumptious desserts if you want healthy!). Their salads are fantastic and their specials are out of this world. Our favorite breakfast item in all of New Mexico is their "Southwest Bennie". The sauce poured over the top is filled with wonderful green chilies. Some friends brought a Red Velvet cake for Thanksgiving dinner. We had never before tasted anything this good in the dessert category. Also fantastic is their red velvet pound cake. So moist, dense and tender. I wish I could go with you on your first visit and just watch the expressions on your face as you discover your new favorite place to spend your eating-out dollars!

“Inconsistent and overpriced”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2012 via mobile

We've been eating at one Flying Star or another for about 15 years now. We keep going back, but, much less often than we did in the early days. The menu and bakery items change periodically, and over the years many of our favorite items have disappeared. The desserts look a lot better than they taste and are absurdly expensive - a piece of pie and a iced tea for $10!

Unfortunately, the focus of the restaurant seems to be on ambience (which is great!) over the quality of the food. About 1/3 of the time we go, something disappoints. It's inconvenient to complain, no one ever comes to ask how your food is, you have to go stand in line, and I have never been offered any compensation for bad food and mistakes, other than a re-do. Just too expensive to justify the lack of quality control.

“Good food quick service”

Been here many times.... Good variety of quality food. Either inside or outside seating... Paseo can be a bit loud.
