The Open Space Visitor Center is a multi-use facility that serves as an orientation center for Albuquerque's numerous official open spaces and green belt areas. It also serves as a meeting place, art gallery, classroom and trailhead for hiking and biking. It's a beautiful facility in an of itself with rambling grounds, natural lighting, courtyards decorated with hand painted tiles and planted with native plants. There are numerous special events and classes. Several envinronmental-focused community groups hold their meetings and classes there. There are permanent exhibits and wildlife viewing areas that give the visitor an introduction to the natural (and early manmade) history of the Albuquerque area. It's a nice space... and a cool place to rest after a hike in the open space.
We recommend it to first time visitors who wonder "how Albuquerque got here" and want to know more about the natural and cultural history of the area.
