I picked this hotel based on tripadvisor reviews, and was not disappointed. Was in town for a conference and frequently used their free shuttle (a large van) to get to the university 1-2 mi. away (it was a little too far and too hot to want to walk). The staff were great about making a special trip over to pick me up at the uni when I called the front desk, and they accommodated pickups as soon as they could (occasionally the shuttle was already in use by another party).
Breakfast was great, with lots of nice self-serve options. All of the staff I encountered were friendly and gave the impression they enjoy their jobs and want to make guests happy.
I'm not sure if the rooms were all the same size, but my room was a corner room with a separate, entryway living room that had a loveseat, coffee table, refrigerator and TV; a spacious bathroom; and a large bedroom with another (!) flat-screenTV. The desk area was a little lacking, ergonomically speaking, but everything was clean, simple and attractive.
Perhaps the room layout has something to do with the hotel's history as a sanitarium many years before. An interesting display behind glass in the hallway shows some of the interesting medical paraphernalia from its history. But the hotel doesn't come off creepy, and (unfortunately for those looking for that type of thing, ha), there are no ghost stories to tell.
The only somewhat negative things I can think of are a) my room was on the side of the hotel closest to the (very nearby) freeway, and some traffic sounds did come through the walls, to an extent [Perhaps on the other side of the hotel, this would not be the case.], and b) it doesn't seem to be in a walking neighborhood. I don't know that I would have felt unsafe walking alone, necessarily, but it seems like it's on a major thoroughfare with mostly motels nearby - I think a nicer walking area might be on the other side of the university. Still, because of the stellar service and clean, well-appointed rooms, I would likely stay here again if I had another business trip in town.
Room Tip: Try to avoid a room on the freeway side.
