“Very Nice, But Not Five Star”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 29, 2012

We stayed at the Parq Central in June of 2012. It is a new hotel (the renovated Santa Fe Hospital) with a classic southwestern theme that harkens back to the 1920's. The lobby and common areas are very nicely appointed with some fine furnishings. We had a deluxe king room that had very comfortable bedding with a blend of retro & modern furnishings. The room lacked a desk though, which is unusual in the this age when people need to conduct business via the web. The bathroom was very european, meaning you have to lean across a glass partition to get the shower activated and will get wet in the process. Expect the bathroom floor to get sprayed as there is no shower curtain or sliding glass door to catch the spray. Maid service was a bit deficient, no wash clothes or new soap. The second morning of our stay, the water pressure was low and the sink produced only tepid water temp. We are early risers, there was no coffee maker in the room and someone forgot to place the complimentary coffee in the common area of our hotel wing. Given these factors, our stay was well below a 5 star experience. On a positive side, Service & Breakfast were both solid. Breakfast was a nice combination of fruit, pasteries, cereals and quiches. Overall it was a very nice hotel, quiet & comfortable, but in need of a bit more oversight by management.

Dear Hugemaniac1,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review of your stay with us at Hotel Parq Central. We are glad that you enjoy the lobby and common areas. We are also glad that you enjoyed the style of your guest room, but sorry that you felt it was lacking a desk. We do have the pullout table, which functions as a desk, but for travelers who need a more substantial work space, we will gladly bring a desk and chair to their room. The shower you describe is only in the Residence building- the most historic part of the hotel- but the main building offers traditionally set up showers, so we would be happy to put you in one of these rooms on your next visit. The concerns regarding the cleaning service and the coffee not being available to you one morning have both been addressed with the managers in these departments- we sincerely apologize for these oversights during your time with us. We are delighted that you received excellent service and found the breakfast offering to be delicious. We are very happy that you found the hotel to be overall nice, quiet, and comfortable.

Thank you for choosing to stay with us during your time in Albuquerque; we look forward to seeing you again soon!

All the best,

Noelle Wallace

We had a wonderful two-night stay at the Hotel Parq Central. The rooms were so very clean and comfortable and I loved the way the hotel has been renovated and restored to reflect it's history. The staff could not have been better. My only regret is that I neglected to get a photo of Molly at the front desk.

I stayed here because of its proximity to the UNM main campus and I'm really glad I did. From the Apothecary lounge to the shuttle service to a really cozy room, it was great! The displays from the former hospital are very interesting. Also very nice complimentary breakfast. I really liked this hotel and will stay there again if I'm needing to be near the university.

The Hotel Parq Central is a converted Santa Fe railroad hospital. The people who did the upgrade outdid themselves. This is a first rate place to stay. My room was spacious and comfortable. The grounds were nice - don't forget to visit the hot tub. There is an indoor/outdoor rooftop bar/lounge with a great view of Albuquerque. Visited it every nite. Once again, the service was outstanding. The inside area is where to go during the heat of the day. The outside area would benefit from adding a covered area for protection from the sun for those who would like to sit outside during the day.

I never go anywhere without my laptop. The bookcase/credenza had a convenient plug and the wi-fi was free. It would have helped to have a simple chair to use while working. I used the ottoman supplied with the easy chair and all went well. This is a new hotel (less than 2 years old) and there are still some very minor bugs to work out - I received a voice mail, folowed the instructions for retrieval, but could not manage to get it to work. Neither could the staff.

The staff were outstanding, very outstanding. I was there for 5 nights attending a conference on the University of New Mexico campus. The hotel provided a free shuttle service. It was available whnever I needed it. They also ferried a group of us to "Old Town" and picked us up several hours later. The service runs til 10:30 pm. The desk staff were always helpful, courteous and kind.

I strongly recommend visiting this facility on your next trip to Albuquerque.

Dear Steve R,

Thank you for choosing to stay with us at Hotel Parq Central. We are delighted that you find the renovation to be well done and that your guest room was spacious and comfortable. We are also glad that you were able to enjoy some time at the Apothecary lounge on the rooftop and also the various sitting areas around the property. We agree that some shade would be nice outside- we are relying on mother nature for this feature, as we have lovely vines that should cover the pavilion area in a year or so and provide relief from the New Mexican sunshine. We are glad that the internet access worked well for you, but we apologize about the issue with the voicemail feature on your guest room phone. We have since had the phone company we use out to resolve this. The use of the word outstanding to describe our staff means so much to us- it is our goal to provide the highest level of hospitality and we are glad the service you received was kind and helpful.

We appreciate your recommendation to other travelers and we look forward to seeing you again soon!

All the best,

Noelle Wallace

I just wanted to 'get away' to Albuquerque from my home in Santa Fe for three days and also be within striking distance of the Old Town, Univ of NM, Nob Hill, good restaurants, fancy and historical neighborhoods, etc. Parq Central was the perfect locale. What was most useful to this single traveller was the impeccable service that is best represented by the Parq's van service to destinations within a five mile radius of the hotel (and the airport). This near 'chauffeur' service permitted me to dine and wine without a care, to avoid parking issues, to merely mention a destination and be whisked away in short order (and brought back). Breakfast was great! Bedding wonderful. Shower huge. Patio comfortable with the water feature and plantings. Roof top terrace a treat. A must do-again in my book even though its east side fronts a freeway.

Room Tip: Ask for a courtyard view or a full city view (no freeway, please); main building gives direct access...

We stayed one night at the Anduluz down the street and one night here -- both are great properties. The atmosphere at Anduluz can't be beat, but I felt like we got a better value here (larger room, free breakfast, free parking). The basic, lowest price room was comfortable and clean and large. The lobby, hotel roof deck bar offered great atmosphere. There are a number of interesting details throughout the property. The free breakfast was adequate with healthy options. Two reasons I didn't give the Parq Central the fifth star: 1) the location: downtown Albuquerque, while convenient, is a little hostile and scruffy. The hotel itself is next to an unappealing overpass (but in fairness, inside the hotel and on the roof deck, you don't notice the unsightliness or hear a lot of traffic noise) 2) the customer service was almost excellent. We accidentally left some clothing behind in the closet, which was completely our fault, but they were not very helpful in helping us locate it (we called 3 times, each time being told we'd be called back and were not). It was clearly just taken or thrown away immediately which is not what I'd expect from a truly excellent hotel. Nevertheless, a charming property, a great value and mostly great service. Just don't leave anything behind!

Room Tip: The basic room is very nice!

After being personally escorted to our room and told about the hotel amenities, our stay just got better from there. There is a lot offered by the hotel to take advantage of: the free coffee/tea service on every floor, the cleanly fitness room, the hardy breakfast. The greatest aspect of the stay was the friendliness and utmost professionalism of all the staff. Everyone was eager to assist in making our stay the best possible. I had some time to kill before catching my flight home, and the staff recommended must-see areas of Albuquerque and provided a complimentary shuttle to see the sights. The beautiful decor and roof-top bar are also nice features.

Room Tip: The hotel is situated by the interstate and a fairly busy street. That being said, we had a room on...
