“Thanks for the Pre-Thanksgiving Get-Away”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 23, 2011

My husband and I skipped out of our small town to enjoy a bit of the city. Upon arrival at HPC, we were greeted by very friendly staff members who assisted us with our luggage to our room. Our room was located in the old doctor's quarters part of the hotel (the main building being the old Santa Fe Hospital). We really enjoyed the quietness of the location, the quality of the renovation and the amenities. Everything was very clean and modern while keeping the flavor of the original establishment. Breakfast was quite remarkable. My husband remarked several times during the trip about how he could replicate the fritata recipe at home. Other qualities worthy of mentioning are the ease of driving access to the hotel, the nice park behind the hotel, the wonderful bedding, the number of nice communal spaces, the hot tub and smiling, friendly, hardworking staff.

Room Tip: I requested a bathtub as the pictures on the website just showed showers. We were told that most ro...

Dear mernscout,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review of your recent stay with us at Hotel Parq Central. The former doctor's quarters is the most historic building on our campus with the original wood floors and windows; we are pleased that you found your room in this building to be quiet and the amenities at Hotel Parq Central to be of high quality. The renovation was a wonderful process and we are glad that you enjoy the modern blending with the original establishment. The breakfast is something we enjoy offering and we are glad to share our house recipe for fritata if your husband would like to give it a try at home! We are thrilled that you enjoyed the park behind us, the bedding, the communal spaces, the hot tub and most of all our staff, who relishes in taking care of each of our guests. We are delighted that you enjoyed your getaway to the city and appreciate your choosing to stay with us.

We look forward to seeing you again soon!

All the best,

Noelle Wallace

This hotel has the charm of a historic building, but comes through with modern interiors and friendly professional personal service. The only thing lacking here, is the absence of a restaurant. This is key for guests in on business who may want a late night easy dinner. But other than that, it was a very nice hotel. Beautiful!

Room Tip: Be sure to ask for a courtyard view. The firepit area is cozy.

Dear mrfishur,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review of your recent stay with us at Hotel Parq Central. We are delighted the you enjoyed the historic merit of the building accompanied by the modern interior. Service is very important to us and we are glad that you found the service we offer to be professional and friendly. We did not put a full service restaurant in the hotel, as we have so many excellent restaurants in our neighborhood for our guests to enjoy. We have however heard the requests for a heavier meal option and thus are working on adding a few options to our Apothecary menu to satisfy the appetites of our guests. We will have the new menu out by 2012 and we look forward to seeing you again soon!

We appreciate you choosing to stay with us and we again thank you for your review.

All the best,

Found the hotel in Tripadvisor and booked two nights to begin a drive around New Mexico. Had airline issues in arriving and couldn't reach the hotel by the allotted time to cancel the first evening, but when I did, the charge was waived. Thank you! I stayed one night by myself and had a smaller room facing Central Ave. Bed was extremely comfortable and the bathroom had all the right touches, including a sort of dim floor lighting along the sink, which served as a night light. Flat screen T.V., frig., safe, free Internet, but no convenient place to use a lap top, except on my lap. Love the CO Bigelow bath products, the shower and the bathrobes.

Really liked all the quirks, like the faux post card from the hospital as room art, having a station in the hallway with a refrigerated drawer with small bags of ice. Coffee and tea was also put out at the same place early in the morning. Loved the in wall-hallway displays with thought provoking themes and the memorabilia from the mental hospital days near the back terrace. Gym and jacuzzi are small, but no one was using them. Bar is fun and the outdoor terrace has a great view and overstuffed couches/chairs to kick back and relax. Also used the free shuttle, which was perfect. Breakfast was great! Loved the quiche Lorraine! They also had very fresh fruit, lots of different fresh pastries, cottage cheese, a yogurt selection, boiled eggs, various types of bread, juices, etc. It was more than adequate.

Downtown ABQ is a bit dreary, but there are some good restaurants within walking distance and the free parking and easy access to the I-25 are huge pluses to the location.

The hotel reminds me somewhat of a Kimpton, like the Park 70 in New York or the Monaco in Denver, but the Parq is newer and nicer, and the staff are young and hip, like the staff of a W, but without the arrogance.

After leaving, continued on to Jemez Springs to meet my husband, then Santa Fe and Taos. Intended to head much further south, but stopped off here for a second night after a long drive doing the Enchanted Loop in Taos and then driving as far as ABQ. The second night was even better than the first. We were given an Executive King for the same price, which was much larger than what I received on the first night, and the staff remembered me so it felt like coming home. Planning to stay here our last night as well, before flying out of ABQ. Looking forward to it!

Room Tip: Rooms facing the back of the hotel are definitely quieter.

Dear KendritayPIe,

Thank you for choosing to stay with us during your driving tour of New Mexico! We are so happy that you enjoyed each aspect of the guest room and that you were able to explore two different room types: the traditional and the executive. It is wonderful that you took in each amenity offered from the gym and jacuzzi to the rooftop lounge! The shuttle service and the gourmet breakfast are two amenities we are pleased to offer as it gives us an opportunity to get to know our guests. Our staff strives to make each guest feel at home at Hotel Parq Central and we are thrilled to have succeeded during your two stays with us and we look forward to seeing you again so soon!!

We appreciate you taking the time during your travels to write a review and again thank you for choosing to stay with us.

All the best,

We stayed here for 4 nights and really enjoyed it. The old hospital building with it's gorgeous architecture has undergone an amazing interior renovation. The rooms are very comfortable and well appointed. There is a top floor lounge that has lovely nighttime views of the city and yummy appetizers and they do not skimp on the alcohol in the mixed drinks. Breakfast is very good and the breakfast room is really nice. The grounds are nicely landscaped and there are a lot of areas both inside and out to relax in.
The location is downtown but the area is picking up and there are some good restaurants within easy walking distance. Try the Artichoke Cafe. It is excellent.
I wish they had had room service. Also the rooms could use a central source of light. They just have task lighting and it feels a little dark. Lastly I'm a woman traveling with a young person but they had no children channels on the TV and no signal to HGTV, yet there were a dozen news channels and sports channels. Maybe hotels can start catering a little more to customers other than single males. Overall a very lovely and relaxing hotel with excellent staff.

Dear susanono,

Thank you for choosing to stay with us at Hotel Parq Central! We are very glad that you enjoyed the architectural and historic merit of the building. We are delighted that you were comfortable in your guest room and also were able to take in the scene on the rooftop. The breakfast is something we really enjoy offering and we are happy to know that you enjoyed it and also appreciated the landscaping surrounding the hotel. We are pleased that you found several areas to relax in during your stay and also took time to explore the neighborhood, trying the nearby restaurants.
You will be happy to know that we have been hard at work redeveloping our menu and will be able to offer room service in 2012. The lighting is something we also know is an opportunity for improvement and something we have been researching a solution for. The feedback on the channel offerings is greatly appreciated and we will certainly be considering this in our future channel selections.

We are thrilled that your overall impression of Hotel Parq Central and our staff is positive and that you had a relaxing stay with us. We look forward to seeing you again soon!

All the best,

Noelle Wallace

Overall impression: I would stay at this hotel again in a heartbeat although I don't see my travel plans ever taking me back to Albuquerque.

Location: It was a diamond in the rough as the neighborhood doesn't have much to offer other than convenience. The front desk asked if I had a floor preference and I asked for a quiet room as it was a Friday night and I didn't want to be right under the rooftop bar. They accommodated and the room faced the back of the hotel which had a lovely patio area.

Room: I got the Winter special for $120 which undoubtedly meant the smallest room but for a place to sleep for one night it wasn't a concern. The room was smaller than my bedroom at home, but it was OK. I wouldn't recommend this room if traveling on business as the desk was a secretary hutch and therefore not a regular desk. Also there was no desk chair. The bathroom was modern with quartz countertops and a floating vanity. A very chic touch was subtle lighting underneath the vanity which served as a muted nightlight. Enough to guide you and keep you from reaching for the bathroom light if needed but not bright enough to disturb you from sleeping. I've never seen that and it was an interesting touch. Perhaps a function of the fact that the hotel is only a year old and was able to design the rooms with some newer concepts.

Linens were Frette and there was an in-room safe and fridge.

Colors in the room are very muted with off whites and ecru. The hallways are sprinkled with old hospital memorabilia in built-in-cases and the room had art in the form of a faux postcard that someone "sent" from the hospital that formerly occupied the site. That was the only thing that was a bit creepy. A postcard saying "having a great time" -- from a mental hospital -- hanging next to the bed. I probably would have refrained from bringing the hospital motif into the actual guestrooms, rather left it to the communal areas.

Breakfast was an ample selection of muffins, healthy cereals, fruit and quiches. No bacon, pancakes or the like. I think this may be the "norm" in upscale hotels in New Mexico as I had the same kind of buffet in the hotel in Santa Fe. I haven't had quiche in years yet it was in two back-to-back hotels in New Mexico.

Parking was included and there was no issue getting spots.

Albuquerque was a bit drab and I only stayed here as a pitstop before driving the next morning to Santa Fe. It was in a reasonable driving distance to Old Town which was relatively dead on an overcast Friday afternoon. It's right off the highway and served my purposes. There aren't a lot of hotels to choose from in the downtown area therefore, the hotel selection could not have been better given the options downtown and the price-to-value ratio I found at the Parq Central.

I've paid a lot more for a comparable hotel in other cities and I wish this hotel was also located in places I travel.

In sum: It's chic enough to rival top choices in other cities.

Dear kala327,

Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review of your recent stay with us at Hotel Parq Central. We are delighted that the front desk was able to accommodate your room request and your room was quiet with a view of the courtyard. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your room from the nightlight to the Frette linen. The historic merit of the building is very important to us and something we are glad you appreciate as well. We apologize that the postcard was disturbing for you in the room; to clarify, the building originally served as the hospital for railroad workers of the Atchison Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad system and that was the timeframe from which the postcard is intended to be written. We are glad that you enjoyed breakfast each morning and that the quiche was something you hadn't had in a while, but enjoyed in New Mexico. Even though you do not foresee your travel plans bringing you back to Albuquerque anytime soon, we appreciate your recommendation and the wish that we could also be in other cities. Thank you for choosing to stay with us!

All the best,

Got in after a long, late flight, but were relieved to have chosen this hotel. From the moment we arrived we were treated with courteous, attentive service. The suite was large and tastefully appointed in a modern, but not over the top, chic. The bed was great, the breakfast fantastic and the value unmatched.
