“Great value, nice rooms, not a prime location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2013 via mobile

This motel is so thoroughly (and accurately) reviewed, the only thing I can add is that it's actually relatively newly built, even though it looks old. The look of it mimics other classic "Route 66" motels in the area, but the family that runs it apparently built it from the ground up between 2001 and 2005. So while it looks really basic, the rooms are actually large and relatively modern.

The location is fine, just not very convenient to quickly reach the airport, Sandia Peak, Nob Hill, or the interstates. It's kind of in the wrong corner of town for those places. (But great if Old Town really matters to you.)

I made this reservation the evening before we arrived, based on many positive reviews from Trip Advisor. We were just going to pass through Albuquerque and needed a stopover for one night. Tried booking on the internet when the line was busy - no internet availability for the date came up. We called several times, still busy, and were about to give up when the proprietor answered the telephone - very friendly - said there was a King Non-smoking room "no problem" and took our reservation. Go figure! We arrived around 6 pm the following day, were greeted in a very enthusiastic manner, and the room was totally great - king bed, large room with a frig, huge TV on the wall, free (excellend and fast) internet and free breakfast which was deliciious and included fresh fruit and waffles - I would call it a "continental Plus". Highly recommend this clean, pleasant and friendly establishment which is located convenient (2 mile drive at the most, in a straight line) to the Old Town area of Albuquerque which has lovely shops and restaurants. My only complaint is the Albuquerque seems to have zero gourmet coffee shops in the area and believe me, we searched high and low, before leaving town! But that is not the fault of this very nice hotel.

Room Tip: No fitness center, but we were not looking for that amenity. Location is on a busy but central str...

The owner was a sweet lady who obviously loved making her guests feel at home. She told my family and I her story of how she and her husband built their motel from the ground up. The first part was built in 2001, and the rest in 2005, so the rooms are nice, new, well furnished, and tastefully decorated with a southwestern style. The beds were comfortable and the free breakfast was adequate. I would definitely stay there again and highly recommend it to everyone.
Just don't stay anywhere else.

I perhaps trust tripadvisor too much, but not in this case. This hotel has a 4.5 star rating with well over 400 reviews. I haven't seen that very often. The room was stink-free and really clean. Yes, there's some dating but the bedding and linens were all very modern. We were charged for a regular room but upgraded to their suite. It was roomy and everything worked, which is always a plus. Unfortunately, if you drive by you may notice the hotel is set in a little bit of a worn out community which felt a little sketchy, but we had no problems at all. And the hotel clerk was just so friendly and accommodating that she really made me want to stay. Check it out. You'll like it too.

I called to get prices and availability for their rooms and was told to hold. The lady continued her conversation in Spanish to whomever. After listening to the two women for quiet sometime I considered hanging up then and continuing my business elsewhere. I gave her the benefit of the doubt since they had such high ratings on Trip Advisor. When she did come back to the phone and started taking my information I made her aware that I would not be making a reservation at this moment and needed the price of the room. She very rudley told me the price And hung the phone up.
I will definitely be taking my business elsewhere and suggest other people do the same until they get some employees who know what customer service is.

We felt as if the owner had invited us into her home. She was very concerned that everything was perfect during our stay. When we arrived she was in the process of putting new mattresses in all the rooms. They were very comfortable, as was the room. There was no doubt our rooms were clean; the owner wouldn't stand for anything less than immaculate. Old Town is located close by if you turn to right going out of the parking area. If you're looking for a newer area, turn left out of the parking area and go several blocks. Our Garmin did not take us the most direct route from the freeway, so don't be alarmed if you drive through an area you're unsure of. It's a wonderful place to stay with charm and warmth, as is the owner.

Located as it is on Albuquerque's Central Avenue, we found our night's accommodation easily. Staying at Sandia Peak Inn is simply the best hotel or motel experience we have ever had, and that includes many visits at various high-end international chains. Sandia Peak Inn is not part of a chain; it is owned by a very charming couple with four decades of experience in their field, and who adhere strictly to their self-imposed high standards.

The first nice feature that we perceived upon entering our room was its impeccable cleanliness, down to the tiniest detail. Then, we noticed the high-grade textiles and décor.

As we settled into our room, we noticed that it had good air-conditioning, which is extremely important in the Duke City. There was a sink topped by a large mirror, completed by a vanity-stool and hairdryer, located outside the bathroom with its immaculate tub, tiled floor and toilet. To the right of that useful area was a refrigerator and microwave oven. Wooden hangers, an ironing board and iron were most welcome, as was the tasteful luggage-rack.

Other amenities at this wonderful motor-hotel include a commodious desk, arm-chair, and a Philips wide-screen T.V. which is placed high enough on the wall to be visible from bed without using a high pillow. Speaking of pillows and beds, "solid comfort" sums up our night of slumber at Sandia Peak Inn. The kind owner, Kay, invited us by telephone to have coffee and breakfast, to which all guests are welcome. Check-out time was 11:00 a.m., at which time we met Kay's husband, who is a talented artist. This highly-organized pair of seasoned hoteliers does things with grace and good taste. I highly recommend Sandia Peak Inn to serious travelers.

Room Tip: Room 221 is very large and lovely for those who are able to climb the outdoor iron staircase. It is...
