Nicest room we've stayed in. We were initially booked for the "summer" room, but since "winter" and "spring" were also available they offered to let us choose which we wanted for the same price, and we went for winter both for the jacuzzi and the overall decoration. Wow what a nice space--big room with lots of windows looking over wooded garden area. Driving to the house for the first time, the main street doesn't seem very promising but then you turn into the driveway and a few seconds later you seem to be in another world. Huge beautiful old building, lots of charm, great decoration, very laid back welcoming hosts. We were very sorry we could only stay one night. If Petersburg were a more upmarket city you'd pay at least twice as much for this kind of place--and yet there's plenty of interesting stuff in the area to keep you interested for at least a weekend (don't miss the Pamplin park!)

A friend of mine and I were searching for a midway place to visit each other . . . she lives in Alexandria, Virginia and I live in Durham North Carolina, so we chose the Walker House in Petersburg from its website and the accompanying photos. We were happily surprised to find the house even lovelier than the photos on its website (usually designed to show a place to its best advantage) Not only were the rooms spacious and beautifully appointed, but they were laid out in such way as to provide real privacy between each one, and cozy common meeting space in between.
Conard Kruger, one of the hosts, was funny, gracious, non-intrusive, and allowed us the run of the house, providing coffee, wine and treats where we could easily partake of them.
The full morning breakfast was delicious and filling. We will certainly plan another weekend visit to Walker House.

I was hopeful this would be a nice place from research on the internet. However, it far exceeded our highest expectations. Conard is the consumate host, the house is beautiful (the winter room and autumn room are the best, but the summer and spring are almost as perfect), every little extra was provided. The grounds were landscaped exquisitely and the hosts' gardening expertise was evident. A big southern breakfast was served each morning, and we spent every night on the 2nd floor balcony, relaxing to the crickets and frogs. Very convenient to all the sights, but nestled in its own little private corner. I miss it! Will definately visit again.

My husband and I stayed here for our wedding night, and had an excellent time. The house is beautiful and very large. The rooms are large and well furnished. Best of all the innkeepers were very generous and friendly. Would definitely stay there again!
