“Love! Love! Love!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2014

Our family loved this park! We were shocked that more people weren't there. We got there a bit after 9 and it was us and one other couple. We went outside first so we could explore the grounds before it got too hot and walked the Breakthrough Trail and came inside afterwards to see the museum. We didn't do the headsets and I think we missed out on quite a bit not doing them. The museum was set up primarily with the idea of using them and we ended up just walking through and looking rather than a lot of learning at this part. If I did it again, I would get the head sets. The museum was fabulously done! Very impressed with the quality inside there. We aren't sure why this park is so quiet but it was. The TripAdvisor reviews are so high and yet it is a sweet, quiet place that our family just loved! There was a snack bar set up there but it was closed. Not sure if it ever opens but it looked closed for a while, not just the morning. The gift shop was huge and there was a lot to look at and buy! :)

“Civil War Heaven”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2014

We took our Grandkids to D.C. and Williamsburg and this is kind of on the way. I think this is our 5th visit to Pamplin Historic Park. If you have any interest in the Civil War this is a must do. The kids found the Museum of the Civil War Soldier interesting as they learned about their lives and what the war was like for an individual person. The staff there is very knowledgeable and they also have rein-actors. Plan for several hours when you go.

“A true gem!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 25, 2014

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit here. First we had a tour of the slavery section of the plantation and then went to contrast it with life on the Plantation itself (owners family). I learned a lot about how abolishing slavery affected plantations as well as details about cooking and laundering etc..that had to be done to keep everything running. Jason was our tour guide for this as well as the other tour we did regarding a soldier's camp life while in Petersburg. He was fabulous. There are exhibits outside showing what the breastworks and trenches were like. These were really impressive because you truly ARE on the battlefield where things happened. The place had a lot to offer. I only wish we had more time to spend there but we had yet to go to the Crater battlefield section before their Visitor's Center closed.

“Civil War History”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 8, 2014

Pamplin Historical Park is a must for the Civil War enthusiast. This park's theme is the Breakthrough Battle that took place in Dinwiddie County that ended the almost ten month Siege of Petersburg. The Museum of the Civil War Soldier with the audio tour will take at least an hour or more, then there are several outdoor attractions throughout the grounds. They have a great video to watch, nice gift shop, but no dining. The dining room was closed due to budget cuts. They do have a company that caters for large events and tour groups. This is a great place to bring the kids and learn about the Civil War. You should follow up with the Petersburg Tour.

“A great place to visit!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 7, 2014

We've been to plenty of battlefields across the country, but this museum and the outdoor displays were the best I've seen anywhere. Museum of the Civil War Soldier was fabulous. Audio guide was informative. We broke up our visit with lunch at Guiseppes, which was only a few minutes away. Sandwiches, pizza, salad...good prices. Located in the heart of the Confederacy, but it's not just about Confederate soldiers. Highly recommend it as a stop. Not too far off I-85 or I-95, but give yourself plenty of time to experience the whole place. We'll go back.
