“Good "right on the beach" hotel for family-been there 4 times now”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2013

This is a good beach hotel. It is right on the beach so you can walk out and the beach is right there--very convenient. The beach there is good and kept very clean. I have stayed there 4 times with family on vacation and we keep going back because we have always enjoyed it and its so convenient. They have a fairly good pool and hot tub with an outside bar. Rooms are good. This time we stayed in a master suite which is a little pricey, but VERY nice and roomy. The service was really quick--had to ask for extra bedding and TV remote and service showed up within a couple of minutes. They rent cabana unbrellas on the beach there and have buggies you can rent if you like that. They also have a reasonable resturant for breakfast or a quick lunch if you don't want to drive for a meal.
The beds are fine and everything was working in good order so were are again happy customers, and will probably go back again.
Some things are showing some wear, but they have done a lot of work in last 2 years and I think keeping it up ok. No complaints.

Room Tip: The master suites are very roomy (separate bedroom and living room with sofabed....) and was plenty...

I stayed there for two nights while visiting Padre Island National Sea shore with my wife in march. It is right on the beach, where you can have fun, and have cheapo beer with live music on the outdoor sand bar. Had very pleasant experience overall. Hotel seems little old though!

3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2013

My family and I stayed here for 3 nights (late June 2013). We chose this hotel based on the beachfront location. The place is clean & decent, but pretty outdated. It could REALLY use some updating, but it was good enough for a short stay.

Pros:
*Our room was very clean.
*Staff was VERY friendly and helpful.
*Beachfront.
*Son loved the free lemonade and snow cones in the lobby every day

Cons:
*Needs updating.
*Sofa sleeper had springs that poked my kiddo (not to the point of bleeding, just uncomfortable sleeping)
*On-site restaurant looked dark, glum. Did not eat there, so cannot comment on the food.
*Elevators are really slow.
*Parking was a little crowded.

Room Tip: Ask for an upgrade when you get there. The front desk staff was very helpful!

I read through the other reviews and saw that this place was really pretty poorly reviewed in it's maintenance, most being pretty fair assessments of the overall quality of the hotel. I booked it anyway, not expecting much except the convenience of the location, and wasn't really disappointed.

The good:
1. Hotel staff was very friendly, helpful and all seemed to speak English as their primary language. I'd even say overall pretty even easy on the eyes. ;-)
2. The location was the best on the island. Exit the front of the building, make an immediate left and 200 yard later your feet are wet.
3. The outdoor bar/pool/band was a nice alternative to the beach. One we didn't exercise, but it was nice to have the option if we wanted to exercise it.

The bad: Yeah it needs maintenance
1. The pipes drain so slow and are so full of (probably sand) that they most likely need to be replaced. It'll take about an hour for your shower to drain.
2. If you stay in room 401, ignore the hole in the wall (rediculously) covered with masking tape behind the towel rack in the bathroom.
3. Again, if you stay in room 401, put the AC fan motor on some setting other than high and it isn't as insanely loud.
4. The band at the outdoor pool stopped playing at about 6pm. I found that odd for weekend adult entertainment.
5. This was just sort of disgusting, but apparently housekeeping doesn't know that a used condom right beside the laundry cart is something that shuld be picked up immediately and not left for hotel guests to see until they (housekeeping) feels like picking it up. Don't expect them to clean the sand out of the slow draining shower either.
6. The abandoned building next door was a little disoncerting. At night there were maybe 3 rooms with lights on. I'm not sure if they were workers or squatters.

To be fair to the hotel and especially the desk help, we didn't ask for any of these issues to be addressed. In part because previous reviews suggested that this was the norm. I'm guessing that the management and desk help does what it can for its guests, but the hotel owners know they are sitting on a cash cow that will rent because of location no matter how poorly reviewed. And unfortunately they are probably right.

In short, this is a $50 a night hotel in a million dollar location. We selected it for that location...to not have to walk a long way to the beach. What we learned was that in CC you can drive your car onto the beach for the price of a inexpensive year long permit. Next time we'll stay elsewhere that is newer and better reviewed and drive down to the beach every day.

Room Tip: First, stay somewhere else and get a parking permit for the beach from Stripes convenient stores...

This hotel has been around for decades and it shows. The non-customer-service-trained manager, was full of excuses, and offered no apologies, but said they are working on updates. I do not mind old as long as it is clean, and this place was far from it. The manager said that's difficult due to it's location on the beach, but we stayed at the Hilton Garden on the beach in South Padre a few days before and it was pristine. They just need to add a shower at the walk-up and have staff stay on top of things during the day (unfortunately, vacationers do have a tendency to be slobs away from their own homes). The hotel was just dirty and falling apart all around: the toilet paper dispenser hadn't been wiped out, the sink and tub drains were very slow, the towel rack was falling off the wall, we were left with one, partially used roll of toilet paper on the dispenser and no extra (I realized this at 4:30 am and went to the desk, where she handed me ONE roll--for 2 adults and 2 teenagers--and offered no apology for my inconvenience); the pool was small and the outside bar and bathrooms disgusting. We got around the tiny elevators and long wait by using the service elevator. The good news: the manager let us out of our second night without penalty, so we moved to Port Aransas, which was beautiful!

This is one of the few hotels directly on the beach. The staff is very accommodating, from the front desk to the bartender. They opened a cafe in the lobby while we were staying here, and it was nice to receive a free iced latte served by enthusiastic young ladies. They also featured free 10-min. massages on Friday and Saturday nights - very nice treat. They have free lemonade in the lobby and ice water out by the pool bar. The room was cool and comfortable, pretty much what I expect at the beach. You really can't expect a beach hotel filled with everything from families with young kids to crazy partiers to be a classy establishment. You're at the beach, and you will see all kinds of clientele, and that's certainly not the hotel's fault. My only complaint is that the elevators are insanely small and once you pile a couple of wet, sweaty, sandy people in there - believe me, you'd rather take the stairs. If you could just find them. They are WELL hidden. My suggestion to the management is to have signs pointing to the stairs so that people who want to take them can actually find them.

Room Tip: When you book, be SURE to request an oceanview room. This hotel puts the short end on the beach and...

This hotel is located literally on the beach at Padre Island Corpus Christi. I loved the very closeness to the beach. The pool was excellent too. Check in and out was good, and the breakfast food (buffet if so desired) was great too. The complaints I have concern the housekeeping. Many times, it was not until late afternoon that our room was cleaned up. One day, we had no coffee - they had forgot to give us some. And never was the floor vacuumed. I know this because of a little pile of sand near the TV. Got a margarita at the poolside bar and it was horrid. Tasted like a limeade slurpy with tequila.

Room Tip: Get a beach view room.
