“Anniversary/ Bday Celebration”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

This was a nice room for what we paid. Comfy beds had a great time with family and friends love that its walking distance to the beach. Literally just an elevator ride and a few steps and BAM you are on the beach relaxing in the amazing sun. Water was great to take a dip in and very calm. The also have an indoor pool that was great but nothing beats the beach and sand.

Awesome indoor pool with ocean front view! Room was clean with a great view. The staff was very attentive and friendly. They met our every need. We got the package that included breakfast, and may I say it was well worth it! We will definitely stay here the next time we are in Corpus :)

This hotel is a bit on the older side. It needs some upgrades. The shower fixtures were outdated and the roof had evidence of water leaks. My room was clean, stocked and ready to use. It is a good hotel nothing special but somewhere you could rest and sleep in peace. The hotel does have a game room (not video games) but air hockey table, pool table, a jungle gym and a nice indoor pool. The hotel sits near the beach ... I'm talking 3 steps out of the hotel and youre on the beach. There are water activities near the hotel as well. I would go back again.

This is our second stay at this hotel. The first time was horrible, they were remodeling so we decided to give them a second chance. The lobby and bar areas were nice but the rest of the hotel had a musty smell. Our room was not very clean and we found several mystery hairs in our room including one in the rooms coffee cup. We got the room at a discount rate because we were with a wedding but the usual rate seems very high for the experience.

My husband came to Corpus for business and myself and our 2 young children came along. The staff at this Holiday Inn was amazing. Extremely friendly and attentive. The pool area was very clean and so enjoyable. Our room was great, too. We will absolutely stay here next time we are in town!!!!

3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 18, 2013

I stayed three days for business at the hotel. The staff was friendly enough. however, you can tell this is an older hotel. That does not necessarily mean bad, but it felt like it had gotten a little too bad before the owners decided to do something about it. I was on the top floor and the first night was really windy. Not unusual for the area, however the windows rattled like they were about to explode, you could hear the glass move in the metal frames. Also, walls are pretty thin and spent all three nights there listening to loud conversations and doors slamming left most of the evening.
It is right on the beach, which would be nice. But not much is near it. I say that as a business traveller and I did not feel comfortable walking around at dusk or evening looking for places to eat. Only option is the hotel restaurant that is traditional higher priced food.
The air system is also very old. I could get freezing air or no air in my room. The bathroom countertop looked new, but the shower liner needs to be replaced and smelled a little like mildew.
The soda machines only took quarters and were empty most of my stay. The front said more machines on first floor near pool, but 2 of the 3 were broken and one had no water stocked.
I will say, besides the shower stall, the room was clean and the mattress decent.
If you are going for a beach trip with kids, this may be ok for you, the inside pool and play area would be a hit.
However. for business, I would wait till more upgrades were done before staying.

My husband booked this hotel, so I didn't read the other reviews until after we had checked in. Seems people love this place, or not... I can see why. One of the other posters said they weren't sure how to review, and I agree. It was close to Texas A&M which was our goal, but it's pricey. An older property that looks like they cobbled together a couple differnet places. Some facelift work has been done but the room doors and shower/tubs are original issue (we stayed in one of the towers). Construction work was being done in the hallways between the lobby and pool area.

My conclusion is that you need to know what room you actually want to book... next to the indoor pool if you have kids, the ones that open on to the beach if you want a fridge and microwave, or the towers if you don't mind the crowds. We had a tower king at the end of the hall so it was quiet, but I wish we had booked one of the rooms that steps out on to the beach. I don't like "big" hotels and I think I would have had a better vibe out there.

Pros: great beach front and sun deck. Good place for kids - get a room by the indoor pool; there is a play area and arcade right there too. Little shop has anything you might need for the beach at decent prices. Beds comfortable, nice linens. Pleasant staff. They allowed us a late check out at a last minute request. Good food but I could not recommend the breakfast buffet - they charge $10.95 for what looks like your standard free buffet at any other Holiday Inn. Free parking.

Cons: some areas just look shabby for the cost of the room. The wallpaper in our room looked pieced together, the sliding door to the little deck was off the tracks, the shower ceiling was mildewy. The roll away bed we needed our second night was old and very uncomfortable - the pad was stained, again shabby (I know they can be nicer because we use them a lot). No conditioner in the room. The outdoor bar area doesn't open until later in the day on the weekends.

A doubt we will ever go back to Corpus and if we do we won't stay here again. But if you know what you want and don't mind paying the higher price for beachfront, go for it.

Room Tip: If the reservation web site doesn't describe all the options, call the hotel directly before you...
