“The staff made it worth the trip to Texas! The hotel wasen't bad either!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2007

They say the people in Texas are nice; that is an understatement about the entire staff at Bahia Mar, they went ABOVE and BEYOND to make our stay as comfortable as possible. The Manager Kathy and the wonderful houskeeper, Sylvia are the reason we will continue to make Corpus Christ our vacation destination year after year.

The hotel was very clean and beautiful but the people that work there are what make it special!

We stayed at Bahia Mar July 26-August 1, 2007. We found it met our basic requirements for a good stay; it had comfortable beds, well maintained rooms and helpful/friendly staff. And rarity of rarity these days it seems, our room appeared to be very clean. The location
near the beach was a plus, too.

Originally we were booked at the Bayfront Plaza in downtown Corpus where a wedding reception we were attending was being held that weekend. After reading warning signs about how bad the Bayfront Plaza
was (it was TERRIBLE), we searched at last minute for something cleaner and safer. Since Bahia Mar opened in 2006, we figured it could not be as filthy and worn out as the Plaza and it was much, much nicer. It cost us $104 per night for four nights booked about a
week in advance.

FYI: Holiday Inn Sunspree is across the street and on the beach, Comfort Suites is next door. According to the clerk, all three have common ownership. Comfort Suites has a pool next to the Bahia Mar parking lot that we were allowed to use. Access to the beach is by walking across the street and through the Holiday Inn parking lot. While we did not go into the rooms of the other two, they looked like they might be nice to try, but they cost more. Also, the beach area there appears to be one where the seaweed is removed regulary.

Negatives: Bahia Mar is crammed into space between two buildings and the parking lot was full in the evening requiring us to park on the street (fortunately, it was very wide with ample parking) if we got back late. The only other negatives worth mentioning were that there was virtually no air circulation in the stairways (they stink) and the room air conditioner, while obviously not old worked full-time to keep the room just barely cool. Oh, and that Bahia Mar has the most ridiculously small front door and entryway of any hotel I have ever seen. Just plain ridiculous design.

  • Liked — The room was clean and bed was comfortable.
  • Disliked — Parking lot filled up early

The Bahia Mar is a 53 room hotel on Padre Island on the Gulf of Mexico. It is located on Windward Drive, directly across the street from the Holiday Inn and right next door to the #1 rated hotel in Corpus Christi, the Comfort Suites. The joint is pretty new, having opened in July of 2006. Amenities include full size refrigerators, stoves with real ovens, dishwashers!!, microwaves, free wifi internet, and a desk with a half-assed decent chair to sit in.

While there is a fitness room, the swimming pool is a shared affair with the Comfort Suites next door, meaning you have to walk about 50 feet across the lot to go swimming. No big deal. It appears there is some form of common interest/incestuous ownership tie-ins between the Bahia Mar and the Comfort Suites but in order to understand it one would have to be a Texas Lawyer which I decidedly am not. No matter. When you come to stay here there is a place to swim and a place to work out if you desire.

But how about that Gulf? Good question. The only hotel on this stretch of road that is directly on the beach is the Holiday Inn. If you stay there you can step down off the deck and walk to the water. You can also enjoy your meditative repose being whipsawed by some Texas garage band doing an Ike and Tina tribute with the knobs all turned to 11.

And that is what I really want to talk about, here. The Bahia is quiet and friendly. It is modern, The rooms do not stink -- far from it -- they are very nice. In fact, they beat a lot of modern places in that the windows can be opened on mild nights to allow room ventilation provided by the Gulf, one of the world's great breeze sources. You can cook for your family if you want to. I have done a little for myself for the week I have been down here and have found that my room had most of what I needed except for the fact that previous guests done stole all the forks 'cept one!

How do you explain that one? 20 spoons in the cabinet and one fork!!

Here's a little story and then I'll let you go. I came out here on business. I am a long distance motorcycle rider and instead of flying from my home in California chose to ride my motorcycle all the way to Corpus Christi. In one day.

It's a marathon ride. A pal came out with me, too. We were doing a type of ride certified by the endurance motorcycling authority in the USA, the Ironbutt Association, or IBA. Not that you would care about that one way or the other, but the point I am trying to make is that when my friend Chris and I arrived at the Bahia Mar, we were exhausted! We needed sleep. We didn't need to hear some officious clerk tell us that check in time wasn't until 3 pm or some such nonsense. We needed somebody to get us into a room so we could rest before we fell over!

But showing up early and bedraggled never even came up. The manager and the clerk working the desk wasted no time in getting us into our rooms. Smooth and easy, just how I like it.

Any future trips to Corpus Christi for me will include staying at the Bahia Mar (pronounced Bah HEE' Ahh Mar, if I got my Texan straight) You too will enjoy your stay here, I think. The Bahia Mar provides quiet, pleasant, comfortable, and convenient, lodgings on the Island of the Father, Texas, USA.

We based our stay solely on hotel website. Good value for North Padre Island but appearance and wording on website does not match actual location. Picture of the hotel and wording gives the impression that hotel is located on the beach. The hotel is actually sandwiched between two hotels and several modest condominiums. You can see the beach from some of the rooms but you have to be intentional about where to look. It is not located on the beach. The map of the hotel places an arrow directly on the road bordering the beach, again giving the appearance that the hotel is on the beach. The hotel is located on the west side of Windward Dr.

There is no pool on site. No continental breakfast. Exercise facility is a simple room with a few equipment pieces.

On the flip side, the staff was friendly and courteous. Rooms and public spaces were clean. Bathrooms gave best impression with nice tilework.

Overall my impression of the facility was average at best. Not likely to return but would recommend for those seeking to save a little money.

This place is a wonderful. The beach is just across the street. The front desk was always helpful. Rooms were clean and smelled like brand new. The bed was great, wish I had a mattress like that. I will stay here everytime I come to Corpus Christi.

After our stay, our credit card was charged for a baby crib. We may several specific requests for a crib before our arrival. No one stated that there would be a charge - until after we checked out.

Further, our room stank!. The management gave some lame excuse about the previous guest cooking in the room. This was a flat out lie. The room just reeked and they did nothing to help. You get what you pay for from this dump.
