My family and I (kids age 5 and 8) thoroughly enjoyed Malaquite Beach. The visitor's center had a great display that the kids liked. The bathroom and shower facilities were a great addition and were very clean. Don't be modest, ladies, there were no shower curtains! We got there early in the day, around 9am, and were the first ones to hit the sand. There are quite a few covered picnic tables, but don't expect them to be shaded all day. The beach is very clean. Toward the end of the day it go more crowded, but it was not overly so. We were there in July of 2012 and the temperature next to the beach was just right. The rangers were very friendly. I wish there had been shells to pick up along the shore, but there were none to be had while we were there. If you go to Corpus Christi, don't even plan on going to their "beach." Skip it and drive straight out here!
