I stayed here for six nights during a conference held in the Gaylord facilities. It was a rocky start, but ended well. Upon checkin my room keys didn't work. Once that issue was resolved, my room smelled strongly of smoke (in a non-smoking hotel). Staff was quick to give me a new room, which worked well. It is important to note that all staff was extremely kind and accomodating. The neighboring area is nice, with plenty of restaurants (with mediocre reviews). It doesnt seem convenient for visiting the DC area if that that is your primary destination, but otherwise a nice spot on the river. Note, if you are attending or organizing a conference at the Gaylord, the contract AV company was horrible.

Stayed 4 nights mixing business (convention) and pleasure. The atrium makes for quite an attraction, the amenities we used (fitness club, spa, pool) were all of very good quality and our room (standard king - no atrium view) was perfectly comfortable. The surrounding development area (National Harbor) has a wide variety of dining options and a nice little waterfront. Since it was developed out of nothing and largely all at once, it has a highly artificial quality about it, but if that doesn't bother you, it can absorb a large convention with ease. I would guess it always has large group business - so perhaps not your choice if you don't like that. Some tips / observations:

Transportation: Gaylord Nat Harbor is not accessible via Metro (subway). While the hotel provides a variety of transportation support (water taxis to Old Town Alexandria, shuttles to DC spots and airports, car services), it is not quick, convenient or cheap to move around the region from here. If you drive yourself, you'll be fighting traffic. If you are going to go out somewhere once per day, the options available work. If you would plan to go out / come back to National Harbor multiple times per day, the location will be a drawback. If you use a car service, you will save significantly by dealing directly with drivers or calling local DC service numbers as opposed to scheduling through hotel.

Dining: Grace's Mandarin (across street from front hotel entrance) was the clear winner of the several dining options we experienced in NH. Takes reservations - ask for second floor with view. If you take the water taxi to Old Town for dining, stray a few blocks from waterfront and King Street to find less touristy options.

Rooms: If you stay one night, might be worth the premium to have an atrium view room. Over multiple nights, the price difference adds up. We got to enjoy the atrium plenty without having a balcony view. Would advise saving your bucks.

We spent the 4th of July overlooking the water and watching the fireworks from our balcony. The hotel was very clean and electric with holiday energy. The kids enjoyed it and so did we. The front desk staff was adequate but not very fast. The lines were too long and the receptionist was not very informative. Maybe she was overwhelmed. The suite was very comfortable and room service was great! Overall a great change of pace and worth the price.

We live just across the river, but were looking for a gift to ourselves for Christmas...a little mini-getaway instead of buying eachother another material item we didn't need. We loved seeing ICE! in 2009, so we decided to purchase a package for 2010, including tickets to ICE! and a one-night stay over at the Gaylord. While ICE! was just as wonderful the second time around, The Gaylord itself was underwhelming.

The check-in lines in the lobby were ridiculous. We used the "pre-check-in" function online and STILL waited 45 minutes to check-in! I feel for the people in the regular line who had to have been there for over an hour!

We received absolutely no pleasant greetings from the staff, not even a smile from the person who checked us in, the gentleman who directed us which line to stand in, or the housekeeper we met in the elevator.

We attempted to use the pool, but it was under-sized for the number of rooms in the hotel and completely and total overwhelmed with children. The exercise facility was nice, though.

Our room was clean and the amenities were nice, but my husband and I will NEVER stay in this or any other Gaylord property, unless we're attending a convention and someone else is footing the incredibly over-priced bill.

Stayed here on a business trip for 3 nights. Superb service, great location and by the ferry service which takes you to the old quarter. You can even see those presidential helicopters fly past to the airport. The interior deco is beautiful. I especially loved the courtyard and looking our that massive glass wall facing the river. Great service and fabulous location. If you have no plans, stroll the gardens outside and by the river. Shopping is also close by.

I rented a car but the GPS either lied or the roads move!!
Had a fabulous time.
