“Upscale resort property; Relaxed urban setting on the harbor.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2013

We are Wyndham owners, first trip to DC, and loved our stay at National Harbor!
We had a Presidential and the unit was lovely. The resort is walking distance to the harbor and many shops and restaurants, and is about 10 miles from the city of DC.

Resort suite and rooms; We had a 3 bedroom Pres. Presidential comes w/ WD in the unit and full kitchen. Jacuzzi tub is awesome! There is a DVD and DC player combo, so bring your movies and Cd's! (Tip: read the book in unit for instructions to work DVD!) Kitchen has coffee pot, full stove, all pots, pans, dishes, micro, blender, toaster. Iron and ironing board. Beds and pillows are super comfy.

National Harbor area; Restaurants/markets: TIP: On trip advisor search under "OXON HILL, MD." In general it is very PRICEY in the area, so be prepared and if you can bring some of your own food times if you are driving. Bring deli sandwich makings, water bottles, snacks, and esp. breakfast items as there are few options for breakfast here.

**Gourmet Market? We were disappointed at the "gourmet" market; they had little in the way of deli or cheeses and crackers and variety of sandwiches. They did have some items like wine, some produce, meats, and a few sandwiches (turkey?) premade. But there was some deli items at CVS downstairs from Wyndham and they also had a 7/11 type mini mart w/ frozen pizza and a few frozen meals and some deli meats and breads. Milk and other items needed for breakfast. And a full chips/candy/snack area. They had more sandwiches made than the market! and nice salads, some w/ chicken, and cut fruit. Good selection! And a full CVS pharmacy and any type of incidentals. That is literally downstairs and around the corner.

Across the street, the place called Nando's Peri Peri got rave reviews for their chicken from the locals who eat here all the time. You can get 1/4,.1/2 or a full chicken (Full chicken w 2 large sides was around $23+? so a good choice for less money !) There are a couple of sandwich shops (we got sandwiches at Potbelly' reasonable and very good!) and a Chicago hot dog place, as well as Subway. All are near the water, about 3+ blocks walking distance. None are right next to the hotel. All of the other sit down restaurants look amazing, but we only had a couple of meals out in this area. Many of the places have outdoor seating and it is a lovely area if weather permits to sit outside along the restaurants on the street. it is a great place to walk and away from the hustle and bustle of the city. We felt VERY safe here, even after dark, all well lit, a lot of security and police presence and you cannot get lost it is so well laid out. Great esp. if you do not have kids, as it was kind of a hip, upscale, downtown hang out atmosphere at sunset.
TIP: GREAT happy hour menus and deals here! McCormick and Schmick's has $3 hamburgers and other deals, there are other deals between 4-7 to draw people in, so research and plan ahead!
Our favorite restaurant was ** McLoons** right on the water. EXCELLENT meal, seafood and steaks. (See my review) and we will go back there for sure! We looked here on Trip Advisor (look under Oxon Hill, MD, that is the area that National Harbor is located. We looked at all multiple steak places and they all got good review, but we liked the menu best here and we were so glad we went. Wonderful food and service!
**Other tips? Bug spray or use those fans that keep bugs away! When walking outside, sitting on the balcony outside, and got really bitten up.

PARKING at the Wyndham: Nice big garage w/ easy access, $12 per day and you can go in and out all day. Very safe and easy to park, elevator access. Very good parking situation! (Parking in DC; IF you drive in, take quarters, and take your credit card. Parking is hard to find, expensive and the metro is the best/fastest/cheapest/easiest way to see the city.)
Tip: If you plan to tour DC w/ out a car and use the metro, the Wyndham has a pick up area for a shuttle right out front of the hotel. They leave DAILY at 9:30 am and take you over to Alexandria (only about 2? 3? miles away?) to get the metro. they bring you back at 5 or 6?? Something like that. All the tours pick up there is my understanding. Ask the concierge at Wyndham, they were great with anything we needed.

Enjoy your trip!

Room Tip: Presidential suites have washer dryer in the units.

We found this resort for our recent visit to D.C. We stayed for a week. Since we didn't have a car, we took the Metro from the airport to get to King St-Old Town Metro Station. From the station, we took the free National Harbor shuttle to resort by showing the driver our hotel reservation. The ride was about 15-20 mins. Our room was a 1 bedroom with a bathtub, a separate shower and a full kitchen. It was spacious and the decor was modern contemporary. The hotel staff were all very friendly and helpful. The staff on the second floor helped us to book the boat tour to Mount Vernon and night bus tour for D.C. monuments. We didn't have time to use the amenities, but the resort has an exercise room, pool and game room. Plenty of activities for adults and kids. There is a CVS right next door to the resort and so it is very convenient to pick up convenient items. For those traveling by Metro using a Smart Card, you can reload your card here. There is another small grocery store a short walk away. From the resort, it is walking distance to the National Harbor waterfront where you can find restaurants, yogurt/ice cream stores and boutique shops. In the near future, MGM Grand will be opening a casino resort within a few miles from this resort. We also found great restaurants in Old Town Alexandria. We enjoyed our stay and we would recommend it to our friends and family.

Room with a view, friendly staff, great pool, so much to see, time to lounge at the pool and what a great pool it is. Shower in the bathroom was right up there with a spa's resort. There wasn't anything lacking in the room.

It was a girlfriends weekend and nothing but good times and plenty of space available to hang out and have a nice time. If we needed more pillows we got more pillows, robes you name it.

Thank you!

A 3 year old in a very good area. Close to the harbor about 3 blocks downhill. There is a CVS right next door so you can purchase supplies as needed. There are NO stores or food to purchase in this hotel, so CVS is the only place.
The staff are all very cordial and helpful. Rooms are nicely furnished and we asked for one with a balcony. There was construction across the street, but it didn't affect us as we left each morning by 8:00 AM. It's nice to come back and sit on the balcony and watch the world go by after a long day of sightseeing.

A lot of good eating places right on the road and several excellent ones in the Gaylord Hotel, really lovely hotel, and one in the Westin(I don't recommend that one, girl didn't know what a vodka gimlet was and couldn't make one).

Hotel was quiet during the week, but the weekends were a little noisy. but still a good place to stay. We opted out of the timeshare talks, we were there to see Washington D.C. (only 20 minutes by taxi) not be bothered with talks.

Room Tip: Room 421 has a balcony. owever the turntable on the microwave is broken and the refrig. makes lots o...

This was actually my third stay. Nice resort, great amenities and location. If you want something relaxing and still have activities for the kids, this is one to look into.

Always have a great time. Oh yeah the parking is $13.00 per day and ask for one of the rooms from the ninth floor on up. Get the view of the river and outdoor pool deck.

Again, with the timeshare - just say no. $100.00 gift card (oh yeah I take it).

Room Tip: Higher floors facing the river and the pool deck (I think they are the odd numbers). Make sure you...

We stayed in National Harbor from September 15-19 in a 2-bedroom unit. Check-in was smooth but I was glad I was aware of the $13 for parking from reading other reviews. The unit was very clean and comfortable although the living room was a bit small. The kitchen was well stocked and had everything we needed. The beds were comfortable. We enjoyed our small balcony even though it was over a construction site which my husband found fascinating. Our only regret is that we didn't take a picture each day to monitor the progress. Noise from the site was minimal from the ninth floor.

For two days, we used Parking Panda to reserve a $16 per day parking spot at D Street and 9th in Washington. It was a few blocks from the Smithsonian. We didn't didn't want to use the National Harbor shuttle after reading other reviews. We think it was a faster alternative that wasn't much more expensive.

It was very nice to have free internet however reception was inconsistent and sometimes non-existent on our floor.

We did agree to an owner's update but did not think staff members were overly pushy.

We arrived late in the day after a long day of travel. The room looked fine except for a very dirty carpet. The room was warm, but that was to be expected; Washington was having a heat wave. But in the middle of the night, we couldn't sleep because the AC was not functioning and maintenance had left. The next day, after working but failing to fix the problem, we were moved to a second room. It was smaller, but seemingly cooler. But the AC quit on us again. Maintenance fixed it, but again it stopped working at 3 am. In the morning we thought a bath might be nice after a second night of no sleep because of the heat. But the tub was broken-couldn't close the drain. And the dishwasher was broken, we discovered.
Clearly, Wyndham need to put some effort into maintenance.
A positive item: the staff were wonderful. It is a management problem of priorities.

We are so sorry to hear about the issues you experienced with the air conditioning and maintenance in the unit. Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention. We will use this feedback to ensure you do not experience this again. We are also so very pleased to know that our staff provided great Count On Me service during your stay.
