Description: In 1984, Rosa Mexicano set a new standard for Mexican cuisine when it first opened on the upper east side of New York City. Playing a leading role in defining what was then a "new" cuisine to American diners, Rosa Mexicano delivers authentic Mexican cooking in an accessible, stylishly festive atmosphere. Rosa Mexicano's menu features a range of award-winning signature dishes, including our Guacamole en Molcajete, in a traditional lava rock mortar. Described by Time Out New York as "green ecstasy in a stone bowl," it is prepared table side and served with house made chips, warm corn tortillas and condiment salsas. Rosa Mexicano is also known for the Frozen Pomegranate Margarita, as well as the stylish and festive ambiance that includes an illuminated water wall.

“Excellent service, food and drink”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2013

Margaritas were very good and I just ordered a standard. The table side guacamole is the best! We ordered spicy and loved it - not too hot. There were four of us and we all ordered something different and we all enjoyed our food.

My family ate lunch here and it was very nice. I was worried about taking my 22 month old in but was delighted when I saw several other families with small children. We ordered the guacamole which was made at our table and very good! I ordered the pork belly nachos. I thought the plating of it was very nice and the taste of it was better! Our waitress was very friendly and helpful. We ordered a child's taco for another kid with us. When it came out it was wrong(they brought a quesadilla instead of taco). They quickly corrected the mistake. I was a little disappointed to see both the quesadilla AND taco on the bill. They did however fix it. I would highly recommend this place but just be sure to check your bill.

“Not worth the price”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2013

This is Mexican food that don't know any better. There are some good things on the menu, but certainly not worth the price. The service is not great either, and the Pomegranate Margarita tastes an awful lot like a regular margarita so just skip that.

“A bright spot in place hard to find a good meal. $$$”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 1, 2013

Rosa Mexicano is definately the best sit down restaurant in National Harbor. You can check various other apps etc and see that nearly every restaurant in National Harbor gets 1 - 2 stars on average. Rosa stands out and serves up some gourment Mexican (read...NOT CHEAP). So bring your credit card and have a delicious $14 margarita.

“I wouldn't hurry back”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

The location of this restaurant in the National Harbor area of DC/MD makes it very attractive. We were there on a Saturday night and it was packed. We were told it would be an hour or more wait but they seated us on the patio (it had been closed because of some rain). The lovely atmosphere of the National Harbor on a Saturday night made this experience; I wouldn't hurry back for the food or the prices. The lunch menu looked good (cheaper, more traditional options) but they don't offer the lunch menu in the evenings. The "make at your table" quacamole was $26! We had teens with us who were looking for more traditional dishes so they were out of luck. The service was good and the adults were mostly happy with the food but all agreed it wasn't worth the pricing. A member of our party asked for sour cream to go with the enchiladas he ordered and was "strongly encouraged" (that's a quote) from the waiter not to ask for sour cream for that entrée. HUH? One nice feature is that the side rice and beans comes family style which gave people more flexibility. (I hate to see those piles of sides on plates - often to go uneaten). In summary, I wouldn't consider going back to this restaurant and really only tried it because of the location. I rarely write negative reviews on restaurants but this one deserves it.
