Best Western Garden Inn on 600 South (West Gate Bldg?) in Downtown Salt Lake @ $71.99 /nt. Room problems: lousy internet speed at 560 kbps; noisy floor joists in room above due to wood construction (we could hear person walk across the floor the bathroom, hear the door squeak shut and the toilet flush so loud we thought the pipe had broken); the sink faucet didn't operate properly to give cold or hot water and by 10 PM wouldn't dispense cold water even with the under sink hot water shut off closed; and an exterior "security" door was taped so that it would open without a key; TV remote only good for changing channel no volume or on/off; shower control could only control flow rate not temperature. I reported the door and after a second or third call was told they were waiting for parts.
During our third day there I went to see the manager and told her of all the room problems and the fact that it was already 75 degrees in the room at 3 PM. The building we were in did not have operable windows so even though it was only in the high 50s we couldn't cool the room. She claimed that no one had complained but offered to move us to a building that had through the wall units that could heat or cool at any time at our discretion. The maintenance man that showed up to look at our first room said he had gotten about 10 complaints the previous night from people who were too warm. He said the first building we were in had a two pipe heating/cooling system and that the switchover from boiler to chiller operation was to complex to do for just part of a day. We moved to a room in a different building which had a through the wall unit and were able to keep comfortable temperatures the rest of our stay. However, this room also had problems: the stingiest shower head I've ever seen and a faucet in the sink that was very difficult to operate and pop vending machines that refused to take dollar bills. I was told by a girl at the front desk that teenagers broken them and that many or most of them didn't work. Even with change they didn't work.
