I travel to Salt Lake once a year and wanted to try out the Peery Hotel. I noticed that this hotel had very mixed reviews on Tripadvisor so I went in with average expectations. The character and charm of this hotel blew me away. I was very happy I decided to stay here. If there was a rating between average and very good, that's what I would rate this hotel. Below is my breakdown of the Peery Hotel.
The Peery is located in the heart of downtown Salt Lake City. Plenty of bars, nightclubs and restaurants nearby (walking distance). 2 big malls nearby (Gateway and Riverwalk). Outdoor parking behind the hotel is about $12 a day.
The Peery was renovated a few years back. The thing I love about this hotel is that they keep all the furnishing specific to the 1900's (built in 1910). When I walked through the entrance lobby for the first time I thought I was in a movie. It's really amazing. Although I love the convenience and look of modern hotels, you don't see hotels like the Peery anymore. This is a must stay for those who appreciate hotels with history, character and charm.
My room was small but comfortable. There are larger suits if you prefer. The first thing I noticed was the sink outside the bathroom. Really cool black and white tile in the bathroom. 24" tube tv set into the dresser. Desk, closet, ipod alarm clock. Very simple room. The best part of the rooms are the Tempurpedic beds! I have never slept on one before and I now I am so hooked. I'm actually looking to replace my bed with a Tempurpedic bed soon. Rooms have ac that work well. Ask for a room that is facing the street for a good view, but beware of the city noise.
The staff was average. I didn't have any issues and they did their jobs. Not super friendly but not bad either.
Noise from outside was minor. No room service but there is a Macaroni Grill right next door.
One thing I forgot to mention, is that the hotel will do your laundry through Henry's which is a local laundry service. They only charge $3.50 a pound. A normal hotel usually charges about $5.00 per shirt or pants. This is a hotel I would definitely stay in again. I loved my experience.
Try for a room facing the mountains or street, but beware of city noise.
