“Very small room”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2011

We booked this through Priceline and feel that we were given this end corner room because of this. Each floor has 2 of these small rooms to accommodate the entrance to the stairwells. Room was ok otherwise but just felt let down overall and not sure whether hotel or Priceline were at fault. Priceline sell you an x star hotel at an x-1 price but in this instance we got a 2 star room in a 3 star hotel. Also, the bathroom socket did not work very well and you had to hold the plug in while using any appliances. I mentioned this to the front desk and they assured me they would have someone look at it but the problem was not resolved by the time we left. Another issue was that our room key did not work on our second day and had to be reprogrammed, overall a disappointing experience.

Room Tip: Avoid the rooms at the end of the corridor!

I went to Salt Lake City for a conference at the convention center. This hotel was one of the least expensive in the area and I found that it was really good. The rooms were very large and the beds were comfortable. The staff at the front desk were very helpful and, being so close to Temple Square, it was an ideal location. The only issue with this hotel is that the rooms are not very quiet. You can hear the train at the station outside the hotel all night long.

We (2 adults, 2 kids) were just passing through from Las Vegas on the way to Yellowstone NP. As we were in town for one night only and wanted to see Temple Square we needed a hotel right in the town center and after much research opted for the Plaza. It was a good choice, as we got a big, clean room and the hotel is just across the street from Temple Square. Parking in the parking garage is 5$, but beware certain SUVs (we had a Chevy Tahoe) can only use the ground floor as the ceilings are too low.

The front desk was very efficient and friendly. Nothing to complain about. The only small issue was noise coming up from the street, thus if you are a light sleeper rather ask for a room at the back of the building.
A hot breakfast buffet was included in our rate and was served at the adjacent restaurant JB's family restaurant. Quality was ok, but nothing fancy.

Overall a very pleasant stay and we would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: High floor facing Temple Square are certainly a treat. For light sleepers ask for room at the back o...

I was in Salt Lake City for a week of research at the Family History Library. The Plaza is an excellent place to stay as it is right next door to the Library.

The Hotel: very average, but really clean!! My room had 2 queen beds, a mini-fridge, a micro-wave and a coffee maker that just as easily makes tea, a small table, TV and a desk. The hotel has free wireless as well. There is a restaurant attached to the hotel. The food is average and there is no liquor served here. This meant I had to go on a search for wine. The hotel will shuttle you anywhere you want to go, just ask. Liquor store, any restaurant. They were very accommodating. All at the extremely affordable price of $84.00 a night.

The hotel is also right across the road from Temple Square. The Mormon Tabernacle choir practices on Thursday nights at 8 and it is free to attend. Enter through doors 11 and 15. There will be a huge line up but there is so much room inside that it's not an issue.

Super great tip: If you are there doing research...but don't want to spend to much time away from the library.... They offer cafeteria passes as the front reception of the Library. We would go to the cafeteria at lunch (11:30a - 1:30p), get an extremely reasonably priced lunch, then when we had finished lunch, pack up a dinner to go (they will very willingly show you where the saran wrap, stryofoam containers and bags to carry it all is) and breakfast for the next day if you are so inclined. Take it back to your room, put it in your fridge, and head back to the library. I ate for about $10-12 a day.

When I go back for my next batch of research, I will probably stay here again.

We visited Salt Lake City for a sporting event and booked this hotel as our first stop in a 3week trip from home before we left over hotels.com. Arriving at the airport to find American Airlines had offloaded our luggage in another city was made easier to bear by the speedy arrival of the free hotel shuttle and great driver who gave us a quick tour of the city on the way to the hotel. Checkin was fast and the staff were great. The room was nice and we had a great view of the city, it was clean and we got a comfy king bed. Given it snowed most days we were there, the heating on the room was great. There is a guest laundry in the basement, a must when traveling for more than a week, and a rarity on the US these days. downstairs, attached to the hotel, is a family restaurant 'JB's' which was handy for breakfast and well priced. The nearest transit stop is literally outside the hotels front door and we travelled all over SLC on this
system. It was a short 5 min walk the city centre. SLC isn't a shopping Mecca, and it was hard to actually work out where the main street was, but even in old weather, it was a nice place to visit.

Room Tip: Either die of the hotel offers hood views, one side is the city, the other is the Capitol.

I have stayed at the Plaza Hotel several times because its so convenient to the LDS Library. I had requested an upper floor room and was put in the last room on the 12th floor which faced the Capitol. Room was small but was a very pleasant view both in the morning and at night! Nice to have microwave and refrig in room too. Hate to complain about free shuttle but called when I arrived at the airport and was told shuttle would be there in about 15-20 minutes. That wait became a 50 minute+ wait as the person who answered the phone at the hotel forgot to tell the shuttle driver! Unfortunately this has happened 3 other times. Appreciate the free shuttle but communication between hotel and shuttle driver needs to be better!

Stayed here on a Wednesday night with my daughter. I had requested a room not near an ice machine or elevator, and we were by both. However, it turns out that this we didn't hear either in our room, so this is a quiet hotel. It was very clean, and the beds were comfy. The front desk was friendly. Wifi worked fine, and unlike previous reviews stated, I was able to access facebook and other sites. The downside of this hotel is the lack of restaurants. JB's is usually a few notches below Dennys so we opted to not even try it. We were in town for Taylor Swift concert at Energy Solutions Arena. and we walked to the arena, which was a definite plus. It's only a block from the hotel. When we returned from the concert we were starving, but there was nothing close that was open, and there are no vending machines in the hotel, except for soft drinks. We opted to have a pizza delivered from Big Daddy's Pizza, which was an excellent choice. The next morning we took the trax (stops right outside the lobby) down a few blocks to the Little America and ate breakfast. We had an excellent breakfast and looked around, and decided next time we will stay at Little America instead. For the same price you can get a court side room, which is surrounded by landscaping and a nice pool, and the hotel offers 3 restaurants. This would have been the better choice, but overall, the Plaza wasn't a bad choice, they just need to offer some food choices!
