“Elegance in Salt Lake City”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2012

This huge hotel offers wonderful personalize service, huge rooms, wonderful food and an outstanding spa. It is so well priced and so easy to get to all the ski locations..don't bother with the crowds in Park City...STAY HERE...ask for a room with mountain views.
One of the best breakfest buffets DAILY - and so well priced.

Room Tip: Ask for a Mountain Room view

We are especially proud you recognized and appreciate the many touches at the Grand to personalize the Guest experience. We are in the process of re-designing a new sleep experience that will include changing out our current pillow type.

Thank you again for your most generous remarks. We look forward to welcoming you back soon. Until then, we remain at your service.

I returned to the hotel this month after a memorable stay three years ago. The hotel remains beautiful, clean and well managed. Staff were friendly. Room appointments are of high quality and furnishings showed no notable wear or tear. We had a good conference rate under $200 per night for a very large room with adjacent living area and large bath - terrific value for the quality. Common areas and hallways are impressive. Sunday morning breakfast buffet was tasty and relaxing. Only 15 minutes or so from the airport.

We went to Salt Lake City to ski with the family - kids 10 yrs and 7 yrs old. Excited to stay in a 5 star hotel. We asked for adjoining rooms and a king bed for us. They accommodated us right away. The hotel was gorgeous upon entering. The decor is fabulous and exquisite. Even though it looked a little too fancy for us it was perfect. The hotel had a scavenger hunt for the kids, a candy store that gave out free cookies, a toy store that gave the kids stickers. There were also yummy gingerbread cookies in the lobby when we walked through each day. The rooms were attached by a common entry way. They were large and very comfortable. It was so quiet in the hotel and our rooms at times we forgot we were even in a hotel. They turned down our bed each night with chocolates that the kids loved. The amenities were great and very fancy. The day we were set to check out we asked for a later check out which of course they happily arranged. The problem was when we returned from breakfast at 10:30 am, the housekeeper was cleaning our room, 2 hours prior to us checking out. We thought this was a waste of resources for the towels and stuff they put out in our room and would have to replace in a few hours after we left. Whatever... no big deal but we wanted to chill out a few more minutes in the room and we couldn't cause they were cleaning.
All in all this was an amazing hotel with fabulous staff and a lot of fun for everyone.

Great hotel, great architecture! Perfect rooms, each with its own character. Every single room has some thing to distinguish from the rest (chandelier, mirror or painting, etc.) things that you can easily miss if you are not connoisseur but that is why the hotel is not for everybody with money. Great banquet department, great management team and staff.

This is my second time at the Grand America for a convention. I always enjoy staying here. The hotel is in excellent condition. The rooms are large and well-appointed. Especially comfortable and nice dressing area, sinks, and bathroom. Gorgeous, deep tubs. Rooms with two queens are perfect for roommates as the sinks are in separate areas (one in anteroom and one in bathroom), and the anteroom is perfect for dressing while your roommate is in the shower. Beds are comfortable.

The hotel receives 4* instead of 5* because of just a few factors. 1) ANCIENT televisions. 2) Why oh why in the nicest hotel in town is there not a Starbucks? The Starbucks is 3 long long blocks away. 3) Location, location, lack of location. It's blocks away from absolutely anywhere you want to go, including any restaurants. 4) The rates are extremely high, especially for a small city like Salt Lake.

I will definitely return for the same convention each year. But if I was leisure traveling I would definitely want a car in this location.

Room Tip: All of the rooms are quite lovely.

Dear guest,

Thank you for taking the time to share your most candid feedback from your recent visit during the Outdoor Retailer Convention. We are honored by the high praise you have given our property and service…the heart and soul of the Grand America.

However, I sincerely apologize we fell short of your expectations in respect to value, location and coffee.

As an independent operation we are able to support our local merchants as we feel appropriate, which is the case with of our local coffee vendor, Millcreek Coffee (they have a retail store located .25 blocks from the hotel).

The TV issue (guilty as charged) will not exist when you return for the OR Summer Show in July but our rates will remain the highest and the location certainly the same. That being said, along with new TVs we are adding 3 new retail stores, a new restaurant and lounge concept, all of which I hope will translate into a move favorable value proposition and location appeal for you.

I hope this information helps you supports your decision making process. We recognize how our failures can impact our guests and are thankful you will consider us again in light of our shortcomings.

We look forward to your return this summer or next winter and until then, remain at your service.

Sincerely,

Anthony Bartholomew

The Grand America is beautiful, well-located and expertly staffed. Upon our arrival, we were offered an up-grade to a suite with a lovely view of the mountains. We feel we got a good value for the price we paid, as the hotel, shops and restaurant maintain a very high standard of comfort, convenience and service.
