“Nice hotel, quiet for a downtown though”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2012

I visited Salt Lake City and was surprised by how quiet the downtown area was at 7 PM on a Thursday. I walked by two steakhouses which were both empty. There were a few VERY casual restaurants open. One bar that was very busy but also very smoky. (I guess in Utah they figure if you're going to sit at a bar and drink we might as well let you smoke too!) The one enticing place was the Cheesecake Factory.

The hotel did include free wifi, which I think was because I had a prenegotiated corporate rate. The hotel was very close to Temple Square and City Creek Center.

A very nice relaxing quiet hotel. Very good reception service and a great room. Very clean and well furnished. Conveniently location in Salt Lake City with good access to surrounding areas. Would definitely stay there again for a quiet romantic break.

This was an excellent property. Very quite room, with a great breakfast & light meals in the concierge if you are a rewards member. The rooms were your typical clean Marriott room with plenty of power outlets. I'd stay here again when traveling on business. There is a mall in walking distance from the hotel with a Cheesecake Factory. Also, $12.00 personal parking or $16.00 valet. The city is not your typical city street busy like NY,NY or Chicago, so driving around was a breeze.

Have stayed here maybe 15 times this year on business, and this hotel delivers consistently good service and is comfortable. Several reviewers here seem to have confused it with the City Creek Marriott, which older and whose service is a few rungs lower. Though the hotel is just 12 years old and is well kept, the decor screams "welcome to the 90s!" with brass, burgundy and forest green everywhere. Some rooms on top floor have lots of vibration from A/C or heating units, and I've stayed in some rooms right above the pool that smell of chlorine. But the rest are good.

We stayed there for five nights on the ninth floor in a corner room which had nice views out two windows. There was a large counter in the room with a sink and a fridge. The decor and bedding were top notch.

Since I am platinum elite, we had access to the concierge level which was nicely done. The breakfasts had a nice selection of fruits, eggs, meats, cereal etc, and in the evening soups, cheeses, veggies, a hot selection and nice variety of desserts available after 7:30 PM.

The staff was very friendly and helpful, and it is a short walk to the new City Creek Mall that is impressive.

A great hotel,that I highly recommend.

Stayed at this Marriott property for three nights. I found the hotel comfortable with good service and in a perfect location. The hotel is across the street from the Salt Lake Palace Convention Center where I was attending a conference.
My room, typical hotel style, was spacious and very comfortable. The bathroom was good size and stocked with all the necessary toiletries. The shower had an endless supply of HOT water! The room had a small coffee maker and iron/board which I always find convenient. The bed was very comfortable with lots of pillows.
The hotel is within the City Creek Center which is a very nice shopping mall. There are several upscale shops and restaurants on offer here which is nice and convenient (I did not have a car).
There is also a Starbucks on the premises which is nice for a quick breakfast and/or cup of coffee.
I would definitely stay here again.

I was a little disappointed that this Marriott was lacking in some amenities such as a Starbucks or a separate bar. I never ate in the hotel restaurant and went in search of a Starbucks outside. The Marriott City Creek has a Starbucks inside which I would have liked. There was a "Beans and Brews" next door that I wasn't crazy about.

The hotel was in easy walking distance to lots of restaurants and the new City mall. The mall was nice but the walk from the hotel to the mall had lots of homeless people and an overall feeling the downtown area was not quite revitalized.

On a positive note the gym was excellent and there were reasonably priced spa services. Unfortunately I did not have time for either but this is a plus that makes up for the lack of bar and coffee.

It says the hotel is 10 years old but it felt much older. Not sure about that number. Overall the hotel rooms were large and comfortable. Especially the bedding. Bathroom amenities were from Bath & Body and were great. The one issue I had with my room and my friends had with theirs was the TV remote. TV service and remotes did not work well. Especially the remotes.

The big plus for this hotel was the staff. I had a couple of issues and these were well taken care of. The front valets were helpful with directions. The front desk was excellent in friendliness and assistance. When I left I felt I had been given excellent service at this hotel and an overall feeling that I can always trust a Marriott.

Room Tip: The food at Copper Onion down the street was excellent. Lambs restaurant was slightly disappointing...
