I found the staff here very, very nice. The property is a bit old, but ... so what! The location was fine for me - a couple blocks walk to the free train to Temple Square, as well as (not free) University area.
I've not stayed at the Hilton, but if paying more for "atmosphere" there is important, fine. I'd stay at this property again for the money. Highly recommended.

Manager Joseph Bessette knows the meaning of hospitality. I arrived after a mostly sleepless night at another hotel (by I-80 with trucks roaring by all night) and feeling poorly with a seasonal cold. Bessette instantly caught the drift of my desperation and ordered a quiet room on the fifth floor to be cleaned immediately so I could slip in and rest. Check-in is at 3 p.m.; it was about 10:30 a.m. when I was able to collapse on a clean, comfortable king bed in a spotless and well appointed room. All service staff was wonderful, helpful and attentive to even small details. A good property with great leadership and staff! A five-star winner in any city!

This is a great hotel if you are watching your money and want to be downtown. The hotel is quite large and has a Hilton feel more than a Hampton feel. The rooms are clean and the staff is very friendly. The hotel is walking distance to many good restaurants (PF Chang's is one block away) and brew pubs (try Red Rock). It is a LONGER walking distance to Temple Square and the downtown shopping area.

This Hampton is a trade...value and good location vs. money and ideal location. For example, I was there recently and stayed at the Salt Lake Hilton right downtown for $150, including tax, parking. Later that same week I stayed at the Hampton Inn Downtown for $90, including tax and free parking. The Hilton was VERY COMFORTABLE, the Hampton was a Hampton. Must say, I enjoyed the Hampton just as much for the money I saved.
