“Great Lighting and bed with a blanket!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2013

We are frequent travelers and were so pleased with the Howard Johnson Express. The bed had overhead, bright lights for reading plus the room had five additional lamps and an overhead light-a real positive change from most motel rooms that are dimly lit.

It seems to be the current style in motels and hotels to have duvets on the bed with a comforter which is usually too hot. We end up sleeping with just the duvet and no comforter. Howard Johnson was traditional with a spread and blanket so we slept well and didn't have to get up because we were too warm and remove the comforter.

The location is great as well - walking distance to the City Creek and Gateway Malls, the convention center and the Energy Solutions Arena.

Breakfast included cereals, bagels, canned fruit, juice, coffee, cocoa and cappachino.

Old room furniture with stains. Old lamps, main room lighting was spot lights that are normally out side over a garage. Old non-flat screen tv. Noise from other guests until 4am.

Booked this hotel for 1 night after arriving in Salt Lake City. The hotel was what I expected for the price, room just fine, lots of parking available, great location for shopping and Temple Square but the management should take note thast their desk staff both afternoon clerk and overnight clerk could use some lessons in customer service and friendliness, if they worked for me they'd be history ! For that alone I'd choose somewhere else next time.

The most important reason I selected this Hotel was value - very affordable. The second most important reason was the Hotel was within easy walking distance of Temple Square. I was not looking for a quality 4-5 star Hotel experience, and didn't expect one.

Adequate hotel - clean, comfortable, quiet, has elevators, parking, convenient location if you are there for sightseeing (we were just passing through), cheap rates
Small breakfast area was crowded, not a lot of choices there. After a really long days driving we waited while the desk person just continued to chat it up with a couple of buddies, could be more responsive and welcoming to guests.
Decor is old fashioned but "cozy".
