“Great hotel but not really pet friendly”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2010

I searched for a pet friendly hotel near my son's home in Salt Lake City and was happy to find a Residence Inn by Marriott. I booked it on line and didn't find a place to add my pet, so I told the desk clerk upon check in. She provided me a paper with all the pet rules on it (fairly lengthy) with the first sentence about a $100 room cleaning fee. I interpreted that to mean if the room was at all damaged by the pet, that they could charge the $100. I signed it and asked upon check out if the fee would be removed from my bill once the room was inspected and she said no, it was a flat charge of $100 to clean a room that a pet had been in. I was appalled. That was almost the cost of the room. I would have left the dog at my son's had I known. Great room, great breakfast, but not if you want to bring your pet. They shouldn't say they are pet "friendly".

The location of this Residence Inn was easy to find, plenty of parking was available, and the room was clean and large. We ended up getting an accessible room, but that was great since things were even more roomy than a regular room. There was a small balcony too. The beds were comfortable and I slept well. No noise from other guests was heard.

Breakfast was good as usual. Eggs, meats, toast, pastries, waffles, cereal, juices, etc. If I ever go back to Salt Lake City, I will stay here for sure.

Stayed here for 1 night only but it was well worth it. We got the 2 BR suites with my 2 kids. It was very big, lots of room and with complete kitchen and W/D too. ALthought we didn't need it we will definely consider this place on our way back home to SF from our vacations. Great breakfast selections and staff is friendly. Very comfy bed and very clean and GREAT price. Definitely stay here again. Very close to all good food and brewery. Walking distance to all the great places.

What a comfortable hotel stay - we stayed in a 1 bedroom suite with our two teens. Roomy area - nice kitchen appliances - clean rooms. Very nice breakfast selsction especially on Sunday morning - yummy!!! Front desk help was so accomodating and even let us use an oven from another suite since our suite had no oven - very helpful and friendly! Informative as well about area attractions.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 10, 2010

My wife and I stayed at the Residence Inn Downtown Salt Lake City for 5 nights - April 27 to May 2, 2010. We were looking for a place downtown, close enough to walk to the convention center, with a kitchen, living room, laundry facilities, free breakfast, and internet. This was the place.

Our accommodation had a full kitchen, living room, washer/dryer, free parking, breakfast, internet, and room to spare in the 2-bedroom (building #2). The staff was always helpful and friendly, offering suggestion and directions. The free breakfast was very good, especially compared to other hotels. It included the usual cereal, fruit, waffles, but also hot scrambled eggs, potatoes, and bacon, along with coffee and juice. In some hotels, we skip their free breakfast, but not here.

Also, during the week (Tue-Thur), there is a free evening reception, which usually took care of dinner. Try it. Although there was no airport pick-up, a van did give rides to the convention center for those attending a conference. It seemed that staff would always go out of their way to help.

Yes, the decor and furnishing may be a little dated, as some have mentioned, but it was clean and our bedroom and living room each had nice, flat screen TV. We didn't take advantage of the free grocery shopping, but it was an option.

Nearby are several restaurants, including a nice Italian one - Bucca di Bepo, which had decent to good food, but also a "see it to believe it" decor. It's worth the trip, and only a block away. Also, a "not to be missed" place on the same block, but west of the above is a very little place called "Bruge". Although there are only about 4 or 5 stools inside and a few tables outside, it prepares real, authentic Belgian Waffles - not the kind you get at fairs, etc. You have to try one, especially with creme fraiche - its' "to die for". Also, they have Belgian "frites" (French fries, but much better). They even import their Coca Cola from Mexico, because it's similar to what they serve in Belgium.

I would recommend the Residence Inn to anyone going to SLC, especially if they're more interested in having plenty of room, a great location, kitchen, etc., instead of a full-serve room service type of hotel.

I was a little concerned when I read previous reviews from people who weren't impressed. But this hotel has to rank in my top 5 ever. I was placed in Building 2, which others mentioned as being preferred (further from the road). I've got a fully equipped kitchen - full stove, refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher, coffee pot, toaster. The separate living room has a 42" flat screen TV, with sofa, chair and desk (free wireless internet). There's a large dining area with a table & 4 chairs. The separate bedroom also has the 42" flat screen and big comfortable bed. Huge closet with an in-wall safe. The bathroom has been updated.

They offer free breakfast every morning, a free reception most nights, and a free shuttle around downtown (but NOT to the airport). Everyone here has been very helpful and always greet you with a big smile.

Within a couple blocks are a wide assortment of restaurants, from Acme Burger to PF Changs to Buca di Beppo to an assortment of pubs and grills. Also within walking distance is the Gateway mall which lots of shopping, more restaurants, a megaplex movie theater and the Planetarium.

While there was nothing wrong with this hotel, there was nothing that would make me want to return either, other than its location in prime downtown SLC. The room itself was well organized and uncluttered, which was desirable, but lack amenities and was in need to some remodeling and updating. Not bad at all for a business stay, but not a desirable place to relax.
